Nürburgring times: Trigger Warning! Spoiler Porsche Cayman GT4 7:40 Tesla DNF to 8:50 The car fchowd picked because he has a manual trans fetish out brakes and out corners the Tesla. It isn't even close.
You do realize how incredible it is that you can actually compare the performance of these two vehicles right? We're talking about a large 5-7 seater family sedan here. There is no vehicle in the large luxury sedan class that comes close in performance or handling. Not even close. Per Elon Musk production AWDs will be significantly faster than the models revealed in March.
I'm providing information showing that the claim it is faster, can corner or brake better is wrong. I also provided a trigger warning. As for your claim, the Tesla couldn't even finish Nürburgring without entering limp mode so I would call that complete BS as well. Personally I like Tesla. My only gripe with them is the interior controls and the rebate. My e-Bike should get a rebate as well.
It's faster up to 60 in a straight line primarily because electric motors have instant full torque available as soon as you hit the throttle but something like a dedicated combustion engine sports car like a Cayman S is still going to murder it in a windy road primarily because of weight. Electric cars along with hybrids are still going to be rather heavy compared to a combustion engine vehicle.
Not as fun. I've owned a dual clutch before (VW GTI) and it isn't as rewarding as doing your own rev-matching/heel and toe. It's like a game for me to get the perfect shift. DCTs just do it for you. I'm okay with forced induction. The problem with turbo is the torque curve isn't as linear as a NA engine. However part of me wants my next project car to be a GT86 with a supercharger kit.
But you can't. THere is a whole minute difference on the Ring lap times which makes them on different stratospheres in terms of performance/driving dynamics. There are full size sedans that almost keep up with cars like the Cayman S such as the BMW M3/4. Electric vehicles still have a long way to go in terms of performance. The only thing the currently can do better is acceleration from a stop to 60.
You don't need to go to 125 to have better driver's feel(better steering response, more nimble etc) which the Tesla isn't primarily because of the large amount of mass it is carrying. My ideal scenario would be owning something like a Model 3 for daily driving and a Cayman S for weekend fun.
My buddy waffled while he tried to convince his OP to pre-order and ended up at around number 235k. He's hoping that there are 35k people who back out (entirely possible) so he can get the tax credit.
The M5 is more than a full minute faster than the Tesla around the Ring. Ya, the Model S is pretty much only good for performance from 0-60 and that's about it.
I think too many people think performance = 0-60 times. When they see the 0-60 times of a Tesla they think "OMG THAT'S FERRARI LEVEL PERFORMANCE". Performance isn't just 0-60 times. It's not even a large part of it.
Just to be clear, I didn't get a Tesla S to race anybody. I enjoy it for a wide variety of reasons I've already listed. I never claimed I was beating any Ferraris or Lambos or Porches with my 4 door sedan.
Also 5-60 time. The tesla has ridiculously good rolling start speed unlike most cars hence the term instantaneous torque.
Battery power is the future, get on board or get left behind...solar panels coming in soon at the hacienda too. DD
would you still continue to buy it even if you're not going to get the full rebate? I would be thinking about it if gas price is still within the 2$ range.
