lets be fair. T-mac and Yao with the current Rockets less Harden and Howard would be well.....on par with OKC at the least
Harden style of play gets a lot of fouls but his shots are way more limited than T-Mac's. Tracy could dunk and do a lot more stuff around the basket. Plus, Tracy was way better a defender i.e. his defense against Dirk in the 04-05 playoffs. Harden's also always been in decent teams. Mac was in several teams where he was practically the only decent player.
Harden is more durable , Tracy was way more athletic (imagine Harden entering Dunk contest - not really) and more creative at scoring the ball. Tracy was more fun to watch but Harden is better at padding his stats, drawing fouls, going to the rack
I think stats agree, team accomplishments disagree, and MVP voting is irrelevant to the fact that Mcgrady was better than Harden. It's always going to be a debate. Just like whether Harden or Tmac is better than Drexler, etc. I don't agree with the Tinman formula that 50% of a player's value is his team's record.
Harden is far better than McGrady as an offensive player and it isn't close. T-Mac was more athletic but Harden beats him in everything else.
Dude was nasty. 04-05 was really his only "prime" year here, rapid decline after that. One of the great "what ifs" for me is if we had 04-05 level Tmac and a healthy Yao on that 09 team.
Man I miss that team. I made a pretty awesome highlight video back in the day for that team and posted it but can't find it anywhere! It had McGrady doing 2 legit 2 quit and everything.
if the debate is over tmac or harden, personally im taking harden. however, i ALWAYS (and its probably not healthy how much i think about this) think about how the great the combination of Yao and Harden would be. i know there is really no point in thinking about that but man i cant help it lol.
Nothing against people who take Harden, but TMac's playoff numbers are truly awesome. It's a tough call. Harden, fortunately, doesn't have a front court getting punked by Boozer and Okur, and a back court that includes Luther Head. He does have Corey Brewer and Terrence Jones, though. Just can't use team accomplishments to rate an individual player's impact. (Take Thompson off of Golden State - think he's as good and as respected as he is now?) It's a fun debate that won't be settled for me until Harden manages to win a title. Then my vote will probably change, unless he joins a superteam with Durant, Lebron, Westbrook, etc.
Harden has already accomplished way more than Mac. But T-Mac was a beast who had a lot of bad luck with injuries. Given better health (himself and teammates), he could have done a lot more. One thing's for sure - he's much more fun to watch than Harden.
That was the team that made me fall in love with the Rockets. T-Mac and Yao were incredibly talented. Plus we had some of the most likable role players. Bob Sura, Jon Barry, Mike James (when he was good), RYAN BOWEN!
Hell no. And why is it 100% of the time when people say "and it isn't even close", it's either really close or totally false?
I still reminisce about the Stevie Franchise/Yao Ming days...great times! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VImz2iMQcKY
