This is great. Very happy for Yao. He's at the top of my list of all-time favorite Rockets.

Represented Houston and the Rockets well. Best memory is his playoff LA Lakers game where he was out and came back from the locker room. And watching him go Best Buy buy an Xbox 360 game.

    Year of the Yao

Tmac was more talented than this bum. Just kidding, Yao was the reason I became a Rockets fan. Not only was he a great basketball ambassador, he was also an extremely hard worker, a dominant force on the block, multiple time all-star, and most importantly a real class act. You look at other teams' fans talking about him and he's garnered so much respect. No one can hate this guy. I wish he were still playing for us, but at least he's earned his spot in the HOF that much quicker. Well deserved.

I've been around and met many big tall Asian dudes. Yao is the first that I know of that has a high arched feet. Most I know are all low arched to flat feet. Oh well.

So happy to be a Rockets fan and a Yao Ming fan. A great pleasure to watch this man play. My heart cringed everytime he got injured. He was the heart and soul of this Rockets team for many years. He was the epitome of the maxim - speak softly and carry a big stick. He carried a hundred tons of pressure, yet handled it all with such grace and modesty. One of the most important ambassadors the NBA has ever seen. He will be remembered as leading the movement to bringing the game of basketball to the rest of the world. #Blessed.

My second favourite player after Hakeem and haven't had a favourite player since.

I'm glad he's getting this recognition.

Actually none of that made a difference. The problem with Yao's body was Yao's body. The human body isn't meant to take certain forces. It's not the wear and tear, it's the pure incredibly stress placed upon bones from all that weight on his feet.

Perhaps if science was advanced enough to figure out a way to create a shoe to better distribute the load. But nothing could have stopped the inevitable. Big people don't last long in basketball.
