I agree. I say target Henry, fill that gaping hole at TE, and grab a speed receiver later on after some O-line/D-line depth. I think we can get by with Hopkins/Strong/Shorts, along with a mid-round draft pick or a cheap FA as 4th receiver. Solidifying TE would be huge for this team.

The Texans want an above average starter if not an allstar, no matter the position. If that is a wide receiver, so be it.

I think people who think we are fine on defense are sadly mistaken and I think people who think on offense we just need a speedy wr are equally mistaken.

 

I agree in theory with BPA, however with one caveat: Given the salary cap, you want to diversify your salaries such that you do not have an extreme imbalance at any position group. Because trades of players are difficult, I think spreading the dollars around by position is more important than it is in the NBA or MLB.

 

This.... You don't fix a mediocre team with a mediocre record of drafting by signing a few players and assuming players drafted this year will be good picks and contribute this same season.

There is a track record with these same decision makers, and this is the NFL where depth and drafting matter a whole lot.

With the rookie pay scale, I don't think we should worry too much about this. At #22, the picks won't be making very much at all. Also, I think spreading the dollars in the NBA is much more important than the NFL. While trades aren't as prevalent in the NFL, the non-guaranteed contracts allow teams to just cut ties when guys aren't worth their salary anymore. A bad NBA contract and absolutely kill your team.

A really good draft pick/class can give a team a lot of flexibility for 3-4 years. Obviously it will be difficult to resign those players but that's a good problem IMO.

They have a 1st round d-lineman, o-lineman, cornerback, wide receiver, and linebackers. They're due for a 1st round TE or Safety.

 

I don't think there is a worthwhile first round tight end and I don't think the highly regarded safeties are good enough in coverage to take in the first

 

The Texans 1st round draft board usually looks very different from what the "experts" think.

 

Even then, this is an especially weak TE class. In the past, I've called for first round TE's but I just don't think you could justify it this year.

 

I'm still sold on Tyler Boyd. 4.4-4.5 isnt that much slower, and he doesnt drop the ball, period. Broke almost all of Fitzgeralds PITT records. And if we can get him in a later round then we can get a D-line or O-line in the first.

Pretty much I wont be upset with picking any position in the first except QB, CB, K, P.

I think the 1st pick could only be a WR, D-line, or O-lineman. No TE in this draft has a 1st RD grade. Only one safety of any kind has a 1st RD grade. Neither of those positions have value in the first. You would be over drafting a player, where you could fill needs just as important with a player that would have much more potential/and who is already better.

I'm all for filling on of the 3 positions I mentioned in the first, and work down from there. With the O-line being the least important of the WR, D-line, and O-line needs.

The D-line to me has the most important needs. You've got Watt, and Wilfork on possibly his last year in the league. You don't have a starting DE opposite Watt, and not a soul to replace Wilfork. Every other defensive lineman is a rotational player, or is playing out of position. And those rotational guys really boil down to just having Covington, who himself isn't a NT even though they insist on acting like he is.
