I think all the episodes since they killed the walkers is centered around settling. Carol isn't losing it. My thought is she wants to be settled again. Maggie and Glenn having a baby. Rick and Michonne been ugging bumplies. Abraham dumps a wild hottie for a more centered babe. But then you have Daryl responding to Abraham about settling. "You ever think about it. Settling down." Ab. And Daryl with the incredulous stare and response, "You think ****'s settled." Then they spend the cold opening of the last episode with Carol displaying so much enjoyment to a joyful tune while making cookies and handing them out. But then after the Rick meeting about the proposed deal, she can't get any sleep and pulls out her accounting book of all her kills -- 18. Conflict over settling and what that requires is keeping her up at night. Yet, even her pacifying beet and acorn cookies "got some fight in them" per Eugene. How's that for movie symbolism! Yes, I think this is the best season, equal to #1.
Wow, you're right. At first, I thought carol was dumb for not wanting to kill that red headed lady, when she had no problem killing others before. I thought it was just poor writing, but what you said makes a lot of sense.
It's because she likes making cookies instead of shooting people.... Blah blah, 30 mins too long, still okay episode compared to other trash they've put on in past seasons (where it turns into a drama that can't compete w/ AMCs other dramas), and at least it moved forward (we didn't get the standoff for 3 episodes). Jokes aside, I agree though, they're trying to make her less psychopath/Rambo, probably before they kill her off, or she causes someones death. To keep the show edgey they'll probably try to drift (like they've done before) away from parts of the comic.
I would give it an 8 for the action at the end alone. Someone was right earlier that chick Paula was annoying on Talking Dead nerves maybe? I think Carol was really faking it at first. Once she talked to Paula and realized they would be friends and that they shared some of the same mishaps and still survived made her not want to kill her. The entire time she was trying to get them to leave because by now Carol fully understands what she herself is capable of doing and I think its starting to scare her what she is becoming. I think it started with Morgan preaching to her and then her seeing the guy she wanted to kill sacrifice himself even after being shot by her sort of made her second guess herself.
Could someone elaborate on the above? Who sacrificed himself? What ep? Also, what exactly are Morgan and Carol talking about when they chatted after Rick's meeting in the church to discuss the proposed deal to be mercenaries for food. Morgan says "Why didn't you tell them what we did?" I forgot what they did.
I don't get this. What are they dragging out? Last episode they quickly voted on becoming mercenaries for food, and successfully launched their attack. This episode the prisoners escape and we learn a little about "Negan" to continue a mystery, after all this action in each episode. (I don't think that guy at the end is Negan...because they didn't seem too concerned about saving him, and he supposedly was a medic, as well.) What is being dragged out?
Carol didn't tell Rick that Morgan was hiding one of the Wolves, and she also didn't tell him about their fight to kill/save him.
I thought the episode was decent but I do have a question. What happened to the girl (I believe named Michelle) who was having the one-on-one talk with Maggie in the separate room? It went from Carol escaping and getting to Maggie's room showing her cutting off the tape around her hands. Where did 'chelle go to give Maggie time to free herself?
Yeah I was wondering the same thing when Maggie all of the sudden freed herself. A convenient plot hole I assume.
btw: This episode proves there was nothing to that truck in the background of the bazooka episode. Carol's conversation with the ginger and smokey confirmed as smokey says "Well damn. Now we know what happened to T's group." This was a production mistake, because they would have known what happened to T's group, if that truck was part of the plot.
After the second radio call with Rick, ginger realizes Rick is nearby because the call was "too easy" and "no static." She's smells a trap. Then ginger went to go get Michelle "I'll get Michelle, so she doesn't get stuck in the fight." They are planning to stale for reinforcements, but escaping is Plan B, since they feel Rick is there. Staling is part of why that set the Zombie blockade to entry/exit. Michelle probably helped set up that blockade, then goes to do look-out, maybe. Rewatch that part of the episode (second call with Rick). Ginger explains the plan as they fear imminent attack. I don't see any plot holes...lazy writing, that others are wanting to find.
I'll rewatch that part again and be sure to listen closely this time. It didn't make sense to us when we saw it happen though. Seemed as though a clip got cut out (similar to what was mentioned during Talking Dead).
btw: I mean 3rd call with Rick (counting the 1st call that we heard last ep get repeated in the cold open), but 2nd one from the safe house that we hadn't heard before. Yeah, would be interested in your take on the plan she quickly lays out to smokey after the radio calls. She says it really fast. I could understand a clip getting cut out. It's not clear what Michelle did, only that Ginger went to go get her. What did they mention on Talking Dead? Also, what did Smokey call the Walkers. She called them something else. That's the second group that had a different name than Walkers.
According to Ginger the clip that got edited out occurred as she was about to exit the room (to go get Michelle?) and she said something like "In our past lives you (Carol) would've been someone I would send cat emails to." Basically they would've been friends emailing each other if they had met prior to the Zombie outbreak. I'll try to listen for what Smokey called the walkers.
Forgot to add to my previous note but when we heard that on Talking Dead then it made more sense why Carol was reluctant to kill Ginger near the end of the episode!
