There are some obvious ones who deserve it, but given the history of the award it goes to a surprise team. To me these are the candidates:

    1. Dwayne Casey of the Raptors
    2. Brad Stevens of the Celtics
    3. Steve Clifford of the Hornets

The West is pretty much what we thought it would be, not really an overachieving team so far. I do believe if the Grizzlies hold on to that 5th seed, that Joerger is a helluva coach! Blazers coach is also very good regardless of seeding.

To me it's too difficult to call right now, but if the Hornets end up with the 3rd seed or Raptors with the 1st, either of the two deserve it. If that doesn't happen and it stays as is, I'd give it to Stevens I think.

Raptors were already very good last year, so this year isn't that much of a jump.
Celtics took a huge leap and Hornets are on the way to a great leap as well. Should be between Steve and Stevens

Byron Scott might be the sole reason the Lakers keep their pick this year. His tanking effort have been masterful. He has to be considered.

Well they took a huge leap too, last year they were never taken seriously and now they are 2nd in the East and not looking to give that up. They have been in top 5 of power rankings for the longest time so I feel he should at least be considered. I agree though, the other two are a lot bigger.

I'd give it to Clifford. Totally reinvented his team this year. Went from one of the worst offensive teams last year to top 10. Lost their best defender to injury and still top 10 D rating.

And I picture Brad Stevens winning multiple COY awards. Guy's got like 30 years of coaching left

I know you mentioned it but IMO it should be Steve Kerr, I mean come on besides Pop who else has their team as organized and all under one goal like Kerr does? Especially how he handled that Draymond fiasco.

Umm, they were the defending champ that won 67 games last year not to mention he only coached half a year.

previous year's record should not affect your eligibility for the current years award. If win 70 games 2 years in a row, it gives you one more reason to be COY

Kevin McHale hasn't lost since November, that's WAY better than anybody else

    Dwane Casey
    Brad Stevens
    Steve Clifford
    Dave Joerger
    Terry Stotts

    I'd go Clifford & Stotts.

It should be Kerr or Pop.
COY shouldnt mean most improved team, maintaining excellence is just as difficult when you are on top.

Raptor were no.4 in the East last year and no.3 the year before. Not much of a leap aside from East got stronger and they were able to go even higher.

The difference between this year and last year for them is Jeremy Lin.
