I am watching this show and really enjoying it. What a great collection of actors, and I also enjoy the flashback to the Southern California mid 90's culture, clothing, and mindset. This case was truly decided with voir dire. With a 75% AA jury, and a defense time intent on making the case all about race, the prosecution never had a chance. It's a shame that the jurors prioritized celebrity and race over the facts in this case -- no one really believed OJ was innocent, but OJ gave a lot of people inspiration so they had sympathy for him. The show did a nice job this week of highlighting the parents' grief, which is a hugely under-reported part of this entire experience. Losing your child to a gory stabbing and then having the public side with the killer is an unspeakable burden for the parents of the murdered to bear.
Courtney B Vance might just win an Emmy. Dude's so good as Cochran. Steals every scene. I was sad that this episode didn't feature any hilarious "Juice!" moments from Schwimmer, though.
Courtney B Vance is killing it, I would be surprised if he and Sarah Paulson get Emmy nods..... Episode was pretty great even with the condensed timeline and liberties it took.
Yeah, he's killing it... Wish I didn't already watch this... Haha, not sure what I'll watch after Walking Dead, Saul, and this.. Pretty great rotation of TV!
He's good, but in my recollection of how Johnnie Cochran was I think Vance's portrayal is less intellectual than what Cochran really was and presented in court. Personally, I think Sterling K Brown's portrayal of Chris Darden is much closer to the actual person he's portraying than anyone else in this series as well as looking the most like the person he's portraying (other than maybe the guy playing Lance Ito). Meanwhile, Schwimmer and Travolta are so overacting in their portrayals. If they still give out Razzies, these 2 need to be considered for nominations. Cuba Gooding is adequate but just physically not imposing enough nor close to portraying Simpsons true demeanor to be convincing.
I agree. I would like to think Vance's portrayal of Cochran is truthful though. Vance's portrayal of Cochran is so hood, so damn gangsta. I love it. There was a side of Cochran we didn't see and I want this to be it.
I'm 2 episodes behind.... Does anyone have a solid count of how many times David Schwimmer has said the word "Juice"?
Best episode so far? The guy playing Darden has done very well too. This episode seemed to be fairly accurate as well from Mark Fuhrer owning a nazi medal, Johnny Courtroom dropping n***a please and the defense redecorating Juice's home. http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/03/people-vs-oj-simpson-episode-5-recap-fact-check
Slightly off-topic [rquoter]LAPD TESTING KNIFE FOUND ON OJ SIMPSON'S OLD PROPERTY LOS ANGELES, CA -- A knife found on O.J. Simpson's old property is being tested by the Los Angeles Police Department, officials confirmed on Friday. Police said they do not know at this point when the knife was found. The house on that property was demolished back in 2008. It is unclear if the knife is connected in any way to the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.[/rquoter]
I'm curious as to how African Americans are reacting to the show's depiction of the events. The way the show is being presented, the case is being made that this trial was a complete miscarriage of justice due to the fact that the 75% black jury was blinded by race in the trial and totally manipulated by the defense attorneys. It also presents the defense attorneys as being completely unethical and deceitful, all in an effort to trick the jury into thinking about race and not the evidence in the case. Is this depiction by the show insulting to viewers?
Fact check on the last episode is an interesting read...... That scene at the beginning is actually nuttier than it's portrayed..... http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2016/03/people-vs-oj-simpson-episode-5-recap-fact-check
From TMZ. Take it for what its worth. Incredible this case is still delivering news almost 22 years after the murder. http://www.tmz.com/2016/03/04/oj-simpson-knife-found-murders-nicole-brown/
So, the show is accurate. I'm sure many African Americans think OJ was framed, so they will probably have issues with the show. The defense did a hell of a job. It really shows how the wealthy have a huge advantage compared to poor folks in our judicial system.
