What amazes me is, I don't know how many PFs that DM drafted for the past years. It seems every year we always drafted a PF or brought one from over seas. From under sized PF to seven footer. Until today, we are still weak in that position. My gosh...DM, if you can't judge the quality of a PF in a draft, please stop doing it. Just get one through trades...a proven one.
Among other things... - If he does get a rebound (yay) he tries to run the fast break. - Give him the ball at any time in the game and he will always hesitate. No quick moves. Even under the rim with no one guarding him he seems to hesitate. - Horrible team defender. You know how there are glue guys. Guys that do all the right things that go unnoticed? Jones is the opposite of that, the complete opposite. He does so many small things that just don't help at all. I'm confused at how the coaches watch tape and continue to put him in games.
He goes for talent before need..... but those PFs turn out to be low on talent (or underachieving) and does not fit the needs Double loss

Just waive him already. We couldn't get a bag of chips for him at the deadline, so just cut bait, he's terrible. 4 seasons now, and he's shown no improvement with his in game awareness. He compounds that by giving inconsistent effort. When the rest of the team isn't playing well enough to cover for his crap, his mistakes are particularly glaring. Montrezl Harrell is not a good player right now. He makes a ton of mental mistakes, and misses rotations, but at least he gives effort. He's already better than Jones (which isn't saying much) and he's under contract and may possibly get better with reps, neither of which can be said for Jones at this point.
This is a team full of low IQ's and players written DUMB all over them but I have to say that TJ is the runaway leader in that category.
lol the thing i noticed which infuriates me to no end is his pick and roll defense. Often times he will quickly switch onto the smaller guard and STAY with the smaller guard even after the play. Leaving a guy like Bev/Terry/Lawson to stick with the big down low. He doesnt rotate back to his man. The result? Offensive rebounds galore because - bigger man on smaller guy and one of our taller more athletic players is out on the perimeter and not inside. He completely leaves his teammates out to dry I genuinely believe Jones does not like the physical play that comes with being a big man. He rarely finishes strong on the inside or tries to man up and box out. On a scale of 1-10 when it comes to running speed to me it seems Jones is always stuck at 6. Its a slow jog at all times especially when trying to get back on defense. The most frustrating thing about Jones is that once every 3 weeks or so he'll have an amazing game so its not like he CANT play well he just doesn't get how to utilize his talents more consistently. You can blame the coaching staff for that one but at some point too he is in his fourth year the players needs to shoulder some of that responsibility. I dont believe he has improved in any aspect or skill set since his rookie year here which is on the player (unlike DMo for example) It makes me wonder and think if last year's surprising record had a lot to do with Jones being out for so long. Every major statistical category this season he is trending lower per 36 compared to his career per 36 except FT%, Turnovers, fouls per game and field goals attempted (largely due to a increase in 3P FGA) -- that is a terrible sign. at this point its hard for me to see him stay on the Rockets. If they can get a second round pick for him great. I still think trading Chase for the pick that was used on him was a good move and he showed a lot of promise his second year in the league (his best year so far) but he hasnt improved on that at all and if anything has regressed. I am not sure how much the nerve injury is actually bothering him. I will say that was something really freakish and maybe has limited him but there hasnt been anything mentioned about that injury being something to be worried about long term. And who knows maybe some time gives him a small 2-3 year deal and he improves with the coaching staff there. The guy has the talent to be a good rotational player in the league maybe he needs the proper coaching and guidance to achieve that at this stage of his career. Unfortunately the Rockets do not have that.
Exactly. I can't think of one thing Jones is better than Harrell at. Dmo and Harrell should be getting the majority of the minutes at PF unless Smith is having a good game. I also like the idea of using Josh Smith as the primary backup center off the bench while Capelas out, you can kind of tell what kind of game Smith is gonna have early on. If he's off sit him, if he's on play him alot, same with Brewer(play KJ when Brew is off). Jones and Lawson are consistently off, it's time to give up on these 2, they're failed experiments and should be glued to the bench and off the team next year. Jason Terry works playing next to Harden(PG), I'm failing to see what defensive or offensive PG qualities Jet has that Ariza, Marcus Thornton, Kevin Martin, Troy Daniels types don't have. Can Jet guard the Jared Bayless and Juan Bareas better than Brewer? Its time to change the thinking on this and play the best 5 guys, atleast try it.
