I keep hearing that the Rockets are going to be big players in the Free Agency game. Well, how much are the Rockets going to be under the salary cap? Because isn't it true that the Rocket would have to release all their free agents. This includes Mo, Hakeem, and Shandon plus Nooris to give that big offer to Webber. I'd like to know, how much will the Rocket be under the salary cap without releasing Mo and shandon. Don't forget that the Rockets are still responsible for Maloney's contract, and all those guys who came over from Orlando in the francis trade! So how much would the Rockets have under the Cap? ------------------
Technically, we only have to release our Bird Rights players (Olajuwon, Bullard) in order to get them off of the cap. Taylor is playing for an exception and Anderson has Early Bird. A lot depends on if Olajuwon is the only one to come off the cap and just how much the cap increases after the season. I would expect the Rockets, without doing anything other than renouncing Olajuwon, would end up about $10 million under the cap. They can give Anderson an Early Bird deal similar to the one they gave Cuttino Mobley which is about what he should command on the market anyway and it won't hurt their cap number. They could similarly do that for Bullard (Full Bird) and Moochie (Early Bird) without doing much damage to their cap figure but they have to sign outside free agents first. The big number they have to renounce is the $16 million that represents Dream's salary. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
So whats the most we can offer Webber? ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Jeff-on Bullard, I don't think we'll be signing him with Bird Rights. He counts 4 mill unrenounced, so my guess is that if we keep him, it'll be because we renounced him and resigned him a the million dollar minimum. FYI: Webber's max is 12.6 million ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
I know this is adding fuel to the fire but, According to the Detroit News: Sacramento star Chris Webber laid out some conditions last week for what might happen when he becomes a free agent this summer. He told the SacBee he wouldn't accept the mid-level exception ($4.2 million) for the short term and then sign a big-money deal later. Nor will he use Tim Duncan's strategy - signing a short-term deal with the Kings to try to play out his hand with the team. He did say he would be willing to take less than the MAX. He could sign a deal starting at $12.6 million. >> Webber said that if some team could clear $10 million, and he wanted to play for that team, it wouldn't break the deal. 'I don't think I'll need the max,' Webber said. 'It's more the situation long-term. I don't want to do a one-year and have to do something later. ------------------
YOu can ensure CD will figure out a way to offer him the max, as this is obviously in the organizations plans as of now. ------------------
What number you think he will wear? ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
I hear alot of talk about Webber and our desire to acquire him next year....Questions: 1) What "tangible" information do we have that says Webber is the guy we most desire next year? I know is he flat out ball, but is he not a problem-child with a larger than other NBA player's ego? 2) Does anyone agree with the notion that Webber is not the answer for this team because has never lead anyone deep into the playoffs? any thoughts? ------------------ "Their Tiger Kung Fu is strong, but our Dragon will defeat them!"
