Storm, you have to have the sports package. Otherwise you will not get FXSW. I live in Austin but gave DirecTV a Houston Address so that I could get Rockets over Spurs as well as Houston local channels. I got the game but it was on 644 instead of 643. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
Not true Sauce....I don't have any sports packages and I get FSSW and the alternate channels along with my basic programming...the only thing I pay for are the 20-odd movie channels I have... ------------------ "Excuse me while I whip this out!" Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles
My bad, I guess I was mistaken. Either that or fell for some salesman's BS. But you will need the sports package to get SPEEDVISION. Otherwise you will see no Formula 1 this year. That would make for a pretty depreesing year if you ask me. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
I have DirecTV, and while I got FSSW as part of the basic package, all the Rockets games were blacked out (I'm in Arlington). I called to complain, but they said they couldn't do anything about it and that being in the Dallas area, I only got the Dallas feed no matter what. They don't black out Astros games, though. The funny thing, though, is that I don't get the Dallas feed, either. If a Rockets game is on, for example, I just get a blank screen. They don't broadcast what's on the Dallas feed at that time (unless it's a Mavs or Stars game. Then they put up an alternate FSSW channel for the game). ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
Well, before you guys go off on me, realize that I am paying for coverage of the games and I live in Houston where I am supposed to get them. If you live in another part of the country or world and aren't paying for the games, that's one thing. I'm pissed because I'm paying for it. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
Jeff, I hate to say it, but that's what you get for going with the dish network. At least when I get screwed, I get it from a real provider like DirecTV. They don't f*ck around. When they want to screw up you evening TV plans, they do it in a big way and make no apologies for it. ------------------ "Stranger things have happened, but none stranger than this" - Commentator after a parachutist landed in the ring of a Holyfield fight
I have Direct TV and it was not available on my box. .. and by the way I live in Houston. Anyone else have that problem? ------------------
I did find out from the Rockets that this is the fault of Dish Network because sometimes Dallas and San Antonio games overlap and they order other games instead of the Rockets from Fox. As soon as this contract runs out, I'm off to digital cable I believe. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
Thanks for the info Jeff. I too use Dish Network and each time this has happened I have called and griped. Each time they have passed the buck, stating once that it was the NBA's fault for giving them the wrong schedule. Another time they put the blame on Fox Sports SW for not showing the right game in my region. My contract is up with Dish in July and you better believe I'm going to either Direct TV or Digital cable (probably cable in hopes of picking up a cable modem on some type of promo). ------------------ [This message has been edited by Odiggidy (edited February 19, 2001).]
Sorry Jeff, didn't mean to sound like I was jumping on you. Getting ripped off sucks. ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
I too have mega-complaints about Dish Network. I understand that Dish is required to black out competing NBA game broadcasts due to local restrictions. But leave it to Dish to mess that up and black out a Rockets game. Isn't it amazing that Dish can black out competing NBA games due to local game restrictions, but they can't offer the "Local" Weather Channel. Instead they feed you the "National" Weather Channel with a TRUELY PATHETIC LOCAL WEATHER FORECAST. The cable company doesn't have any trouble offering the "Local" Weather Channel, so whats the trouble with Dish? I also previously complained on the BBS that Dish didn't offer Channel 55 (The Tube) while the cable companies did. Nor does Dish offer any sort of NBA package as an alternative way to get Rockets games (since they couldn't be bothered to offer The Tube). Obviously Channel 55 is no longer a factor since the Rockets moved back to UPN 20, but I'm still completely disgusted with DISH over that miserable experience! If you want a truely frustrating experience try calling Dish to voice a complaint or critism about anything, after about 15 minutes of waiting on hold you get to talk to someone who is completely powerless to change anything! If you are lucky, they will at least pretend to care! ------------------
