Seriously though, this guy is a front runner for a presidential nomination..... https://youtu.be/UZ1L013k5Hw
Reality TV, it's a helluva drug. but it's never really real, it's always scripted and produced for ratings
can (or will) trump apologize and be sympathetic to immigrants while reinforcing his stance on border security? angry enough to get the crazies but anger not directed at a certain segment of people. the scary part, if he figured out how to walk that tightrope he could actually win.
This, this and this. Pretty much sums up my feelings on where the GOP is right now, thanks to the talk-radio and tea party buffoons. They've somehow managed to successfully create this narrative that the "establishment" Republicans have given in and catered to Obama at every turn for the last 8 years. They are ANGRY!!!!!!111 and want to send a message. But who are they trying to send a message to? And what's the message?? WE'RE ANGRY BECAUSE WE LOST THE LAST 2 ELECTIONS SO WE'RE GOING TO PURPOSELY LOSE THIS ELECTION TO SEND WASHINGTON A MESSAGE!!!11 Ever hear the cliche about cutting off your nose to spite your face? It's so mind-numbingly frustrating to me. Mainly because we actually have a real shot at finally getting the White House, unlike 2008 or 2012. And it seems like we're inexplicabley blowing it in the name of some bizarre "anti-establishment" movement.
For Mexican americans i dont think there is any going back for how he treated us. Making me vote democrat even though im republican. Ive registered 10 family members already. Yeah its small but guess how many people are doing this all over the country.
You consider yourself a republican? So you don't like Trump, Cruz is tea party so you can't like him so you want "no abortion even in cases of rape" Rubio? What did trump do to you? He called all illegals rapists and thieves and other stuff but if you can register to vote I am guessing you are not illegal so I am a bit confused.
Amen, either way if Trump even shows one bit of flip flop on the issue his base will vanish. They want a guy who doesn't take back insults, doesn't say I'm sorry. Trump will get the Non-spanish speaking hispanics though.
I think there's a major gap in understanding the ramifications of those comments. And perhaps its an immigrant experience thing. My parents were legal immigrants and my father had a hellish time getting in to begin with. But my family came here because they wanted a better life here and more importantly, we don't hold any ill will towards other families that want the same thing. The Republicans paint this narrative that illegal immigration is an affront to those who immigrated legally. That argument has never resonated with myself or any immigrants that I know. If anyone understands why illegal immigrants come here, its legal immigrants. And moreover, racist attacks on illegals don't exactly make other immigrants feel very good. There's a reason why the Asian vote has more or less flipped in 20 years. I mean for example Indian Americans are the wealthiest ethnic group in the US (with the exception of the Jewish community) and yet they vote overwhelmingly Democratic. Indians are a culturally conservative and wealthy demographic. This is a perfect group for Republicans. In Canada, for example, there are prominent Indo-Canadian Conservative politicians and Indians vote Conservative and Liberal/NDP. However, when Republican politicians spout insulting attacks on other immigrants, it should come as no surprise that other minorities also take offense to that. If Republican politicians are willing to scapegoat a minority group for their own political benefit, what's to stop them from scapegoating other minorities. Perhaps this is news, but minorities don't like voting for racist politicians even if the racism isn't directed at them. Pete Wilson more or less ruined the Republican Party for a generation in California by signing away the Latino vote in a short sighted gambit against illegal immigration. Republicans already have a problem and to double down like this is political suicide. Being selectively racist is still being racist. Insulting illegals with idiotic and false stereotypes makes Republicans look small, fearful and unwelcoming. That's the exact opposite impression that they need to make with minorities. If you want a textbook on minority outreach, go take a look at Bush's presidential campaigns.
My parents became American citizens because of Ronald Reagan and were republicans for over 12 years until the right began demonizing Hispanics and immigrants after 9/11. The GOP ruined everything Reagan built all because they thought Latinos wouldn't matter but guess what, now you get your reckoning. GOP leaders are some of the most short-sighted folks I've ever seen. Now you have the right kissing our asses but it's too late. Who's next? Muslims. Muslims are hearing all the hate towards them and will move from right to left.
Hillary has the best polling among registered Hispanics, someone cited Bush who still got a minority of the Hispanic vote, I don't think republicans flipped a switch that they will now suddenly pay a price. The "Hispanic vote" is clearly not some unison lemming vote the previous few posts have portrayed them as. Bush got 35% in 2000 and 44% in 2004.
Most hispanics i've talked to still haven't realized that Trump is pretty much the nominee. They thought he was going to disappear because Americans couldn't be that stupid to have this guy represent the GOP. I told my dad this week that Trump has it in the bag and he couldn't believe it. First thing he says is, "I'm registered to vote right? Do I need to do anything?" When Trump becomes the face of the GOP on Wednesday I expect a swarm of folks registering to vote.
Interesting that you bring this up. I think that the vast majority of Muslims in the US would be Republicans if not for the constant vitriol by the right.
Increasing the vote share to 44% in 2004 was a great achievement. It was a sign that Republicans were starting to win over the Latino vote and that there was momentum on their side. If Bush had managed to succeed in pushing through immigration reform, I bet Republicans would be in a totally different position. If a Republican managed to get 44% of what is now a much larger Latino electorate, the math for states like Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Florida completely changes. New Mexico isn't even considered a swing state anymore because Republicans just perform so poorly when it comes to the Latino vote.
What's sad is that the conservative ideaology really does appeal to most of the minority groups in the US, but the GOP continues to push them away.
