I was never a fan of kicking the ball on the ground in a late game with the lead like the Giants did. I know the main kickoff returner won't end up getting it but I've always hated that strategy. It always seems to set up the other team with great field possession whether going out of bounds or landing on someone at the 40 yard line. The Oilers did that alot too in that evil Bufallo game that left us in comas for weeks. Just one of the small factors that lead to that one.

Anyways I like the Cowboys D. It has alot of potential.

Well I still think Quincy sucks. Yes he had big stats (300+ yards) and we did win, but the int was bad and he had a fumble in scoring position (that luckily Dallas fell on). He threw some decent balls but still throws balls to where the receiver is either layed out os has to stop to catch it. He's better than prior years, but still needs lots of improvement.

As for the RBs, well Tuna may do it again. Hambrick and Anderson seemed to oth do a decent job of toting the ball. Neither one is a marquee name but they did ok.

The O-line played well in the firs half but they must eliminate the penalties. Too many.

Nice to see Galloway finally playing well, as well as Glenn. Campbell was a nice pickup. Seeign him blocking Strahan showed me alot, and he has decent hands.

I don't think our D-line is as great as we played. THe 3 rookies and 4th guy playing out of position made them look like the NY Sack excahnge early. Ellis and Glover are both keepers. Blades did play ok but let's see him against a better o-line. Ekuban is fighting for a contract sao it wouldn't surprise me to see him have acareer year.

Our LBs and safeties are great to watch. Dat and Dexter fly around then Woody and Williams can pack a punch (but Roy needs lots of work in coverage). Once Ross gets back we should have 3 potentially nice corners.

Cundiff what a game! With potentially his job on the line he delivered! Gowin got some lucky bounces on not so great kicks.

Great win, but let's see the same thing vs. teh Jets in 2 weeks!

5-11 does not equal 5-11 when it comes to level of interest, give me a break. Even when they were both sucking last year, more people would tune in to the Cowboys because of the love/hate thing people have with them. And for the record, they weren't 5-11 when they played, they were 0-1. If they had scheduled this for later in the year, I would have been more inclined to agree with you.

It's always a gamble as to whether a game is going to be good, might as well take a gamble with a game that has a hook. Last week's MNF game had a hook but sucked. The Jets - Skins game was pretty good. This game rocked.

Ok, I'm tired but happy. (man, 5hrs of sleep sucks.) This was a great game for the team. The offense continued to move the ball, but I wish the redzone O had a better % of TD's, but FG's are better than nothing. Still got some questions at HB. I would have thought Troy would be doing better this year, but he really hasn't shown me anything. He certainly doesn't look like Walter Payton.

Defense did great for the half, showing a bit of a pass rush. I figure they were tired, but they still played somewhat bad near the end of the game with the Giants comeback. And maybe it was just me, but it looked like the Giants line was holding like crazy during that part of the game. (holding inlcudes holding on to a guys shoulder, right?) Some of the interference calls were bad, on both sides, though somehow they seemed worse on us. ;)

Special teams did pretty good, in fact, they pretty much won the game. Toby Gowin got lucky on his punts and his kickoffs were good, so the field position for the Giants wouldn't too bad. Zuriel looked ok at return, though he needs to learn some things. Oh, and the one known as Billy was pretty good. I guess this makes up for last week.

The INT was pretty bad, but as mentioned in this thread, it was better, I guess, than it looked. The fumble may have had something to do with the rain, according to Madden, but I'm not sure since he did the same thing in the dry Arizona dessert. I actually thought QC threw pretty well. Some balls were off a bit, but at least they weren't going to Giants. Plus, if you put in his running ability, which looked sort of limited due to a groin injury, he did things to win the game which wouldn't even put us into the position to throw passes that may not be right there.

I agree with the line. Shouldn't have any false starts or other dumb penalties.

I love all I've seen from Campbell. He was advertised as a good blocking TE, but he looks like the total package so far. His hands look ok to me, plus he's been trying to put that winning feeling into the locker room that many don't know about.

As for the line, I pretty much agree but it was nice to see some pressure even if it was against a sucky line. I really don't care how Blade plays as long as he's there, commanding a double team away from Glover and the others. Since he's big and fast, that seems like a good idea. Ekuban kind of gets on my nerves. You would think he'd be doing much better, but he isn't. I remember reading about Parcells trying to teach him some moves. Hopefully it will work.

(kind of made my post then saw yours, so this looks kind of funny. Kind of just replied halfway after mine.)

As to whether this game should be on MNF, if you are still debating that, you are flat out stupid, no offense. This game was definitly one of the best MNF games in recent memory and I doubt many people changed the channel after the first five minutes. The "no 5-11 teams" doesn't really hold up this early in the season. No telling who may underachieve this year and end up with 4,5, or 6 wins. PHI is 0-2, but does that mean McNabb and the Eagles shouldn't be on MNF with only a few games played? I don't think many will complain. Plus, Arizona was picked to win it all by the ESPN video game. They should be on MNF. ;)
Seriously, just like the other case, who knows what team will turn it around. I don't know if Dallas can, I doubt it so soon, but if they scored some points and take big strides, who knows what.

I'm drained already this day, so if that didn't make any sense, just watch Strong Bad e-mails or something.

Jeebus. I'm in Dallas on business and spent all night watching the game in a bar here (staying in Addison). I can't believe the Giants comeback and I really am amazed at the Cowboy's kicker. That dude had quite a night. Hopefully Kris Brown can have a few games like that!

THanks for the reminder but Zuriel did have some great returns! I know the punt he grabbed at teh 5 was not a great fundamental thing to do, but he is exciting back there. Guess Tuna's commitment to special teams is shing thru!

Well, as a Dallas fan, I thought for sure we would lose this game. Even when we sent it into OT, I still thought we would lose....especially after that first OT series and how it went. But, then our defense did their job and we got the ball back for an excellent drive capped off by that awesome tight end pass to set up the field goal.

The disturbing thing about this game is how Dallas collapsed as if they just ran out of steam by putting to much effort into the first 3 quarters. Either that...or NY was just toying with us the entire game and then came out in the 4th to undo everything we had done. That was a nightmare and I was thinking this is goes up there with Houston vs. Buffalo if we lose even though their not really the same. Plus, NY had always come back like that in the past few years to beat the Cowboys.

We won because of a miracle basically in that the kick-off went out of bounds. After that, it was pull the play out of the hat for situations just like that and a lucky career long FG.

I am pretty tired this morning as well. That game wore me out just by watching it as it was an emotional rollercoaster ride. It seriously reminded me of an Oilers debacle.

    That said...I'm glad we won.

    Cundiff was outstanding.

Quincy Carter played a great game, and made great throws all game. I don't know what you are talking about the when y ou write the receivers had to lay-out or stop to catch the ball.

I hate the Cowboys with a passion....and living in Dallas among these Cowgirl fans, it sucks!

But yesterday's game, I watched it, and I was surprised. The Cowboys of the 2nd half looked like the Texans of the 2nd half against Miami. For some odd reason, the OL for Dallas held up for Quincy and Quincy ended up becoming an All-Star in the 2nd half. The defense came through....they ended up making it a great game. Gotta admit that. But I bleed Texans blood and I will always hate the Cowboys.....:D

That was a very good MNF game. I was surprised. It had everything you could want in a game if your a football fan.

That may be the best MNF game all season.

If you call out passes to open receivers (1st half, Terry Glenn is open on an out pattern) and having him have to jump to catch the ball a great throw then so be it. A good throw on an wide open out pattern is to hit a receiver in stride (see the Rams from 2001-2002) and allows them to make a move on the cornerback rather than be laying on the ground after a catch.

Granted he made some nice throws by rolling out, but he mis-fired an quite a few.

Maybe I am too critical of Quincy but to me he does not throw the ball consistent enough to be an NFL QB.

I noticed he had some passes that weren't right on the money. Ideally, you want the receiver to catch the ball while running without having to turn or slow up. What I saw was on most of his passes the receivers were adjusting quite nicely to the passes. Take the play to set up the OT FG winner. QC faked the handoff and circled out of the pocket to find the tight end. However, he threw the ball kind of low. The tight end made an adjustment to catch it and then sailed. He might have scored a TD had that pass been higher and a little in front.

So, the receivers and tight ends deserve a lot of credit. They were making excellent catches and adjusting to Quincy's sometimes wobbly and slightly underthrown passes. There could have been a lot of dropped passes in this game but there were hardly any. Excellent game by our pass catchers. That said...Quincy still made good decisions and was passing decent to well. The biggest problem was QC and the Cowboys in the red zone. The game wouldn't have been so close had we scored some touchdowns in the red zone on several opportunities. But, we settled for FGs on one too many occassions.

    Woo hoo!

I guess this is what happens when I don't start a thread. Last two years I would start most of the Cowboys threads and trash talk when they were up at halftime.

Miracle and lucky win, but **** I'll take it!

    CK,

I don't understand your comment that if people hate a team that they are going to tune in to watch. I hate the Cowboys as much as anybody, and I didn't watch one bit of that game last night.

And the reason why that game was so exciting is that both of those teams suck. When 2 teams that are somewhat even play each other, that is what happens...close and exciting games. If the Cowboys had played a team that is better than them instead of even with them, it would have been a blowout with the Cowboys on the losing end.

Umm...the Cowboys are supposed to suck. The Giants are supposed to be in contention this year. These are by no means even teams. Everyone thought this would be a blowout by the Giants.

    You missed a great game.

    Here are some thoughts.

I like what I saw in Quincy. In my opinion, he could be one of the best back up QB's in the game. Dallas still needs a true starter that knows where to put the ball for his receivers.

The Cowboys COULD potentially have the best receiving group in the entire NFL, they just need a QB to zing the ball to them. I just feel like if you put somebody like David Carr on Dallas, he could just stand back and pick apart defenses all day long with their decent O-line and great receivers.

Troy Hambrick: Could be a decent BACK UP running back. This guy does not need to be the starter. I know he doesn't make mistakes and he can finish runs, but he doesn't have that explosion through the hole, plus I saw him miss a ton of holes last night. All I know is I think I'd rather have Emmitt still. This is the guy we had to get rid of Emmitt so we could give a chance to?

Defense: Great defense, but they are small and can be pounded on. The cowboys need a good RB to eat the clock and get first downs so the defense can rest and stay fresh. Other than that, I like their speed and Roy Williams is a monster. They guy lays a pop on everybody he tackles...that can wear out offensive players.

Billy Cundiff had a great game, but I with he had half as many field goals...the Cowboys need to be able to put the ball in the end zone. They just can't drive 60 yards then peter out. Once they get into the defensive territory, they need to pound that ball into the end zone. Too many drives and too much good field position to be wasted on so many field goals.

I couldn't disagree more about you wanting to relegate QC to a back-up role. He has not started that many games. He is just now getting comfortable and showing maturity. He's learned from his mistakes from last season and improved. He seems to be getting better with each game. He could become one of the better quarterbacks in this league given a little time. Now is not the time to go fishing for another quarterback. Troy Aikman didn't do so hot for a while starting out and look what he became. Same goes with Warren Moon. You've got to stick with QC unless he completely disintegrates on us. Plus, QC never really had a fair shot last season because our offensive line was depleted by injuries and just plain stunk at giving him protection. It's no wonder he couldn't mature or make good decisions when he had little to no protection at all. The ball snapped and he was running from a pack of wild dogs wanting to rip his head off. He didn't have time to think let alone make a correct decision.
