Didn't see this posted: Houston Chronicle Ultimate Houston I do like the taco-wagon mascot: Sr. Tripe
Thats EXACTLY what I thought. The timing is ironic too, the Best of Houston in the Press is being released next week I believe.
The difference is that the Chon's list is not voted on, it is selected by the staff. But yeah, it's kind of a rip-off.
SWIMMING HOLE The Reef A spring fed lake that is located south of downtown Houston? "Why swim in a crowded, overchlorinated neighborhood pool when you can be at the Reef in about 30 minutes from anywhere in Houston? This spring-fed 20-acre, 40-foot-deep lake with clear blue water is a great place to beat the heat. Splash around in the shallow end, try to catch a minnow, jump off a pier or take a hydro bike, canoe or kayak out on the water. It's even got an 800-yard swim course for serious swimmers. Addmission is $8.50 for adults, $5.50 for kids and $7.50 for teens and seniors." -Houston Chronicle I've never heard of this place, but it sounds very nice. Has anyone ever been?
I read the Chron's guide on Sunday and thought it was completely stupid, except for the fact that they mentioned Mr. Gino's Lounge as "Best Unknown Blues Hangout" or something like that. I have sat in with I.J. Gosey there a few times and it is lots of fun. Otherwise, stick with the Houston Press when it comes to this kind of stuff.
