The official results from the first RHT poll, in response to the question " Does Cuttino Mobley Finish The Season A Rocket?, 152 out of 228 voters (remarkably an exact 2/3rds) said Yes.

This time around the question deals with the small forward spot. The question is fairly straight forward: Who will be the Rockets' primary small forward this year? To avoid any possible confusion, allow me to extend that; come the end of the season which player will have logged more minutes for the Rockets at the 3 spot?

Again, three requests: Please explain your answers, please remember that this asks who you think will be the primary sf, not who you think should, and please feel free to suggest topics for future RHT Questions.

I voted for EG, with the reasoning that JVG will play the 5 best players on the team the most and that both Taylor and EG will prove to be among those 5.

Eddie Griffin has never played Small Forward for the Rockets and has shown absolutely no ability as a Small Forward that I can see.

Adrian Griffin is a career sub. only starting in key situations.

Glen Rice is the logical choice because of his experience and the fact that he has actually started Small Forward. However, he is old, old old and has had much trouble staying healthy since his arrival in Houston. His expiring contract could be used as trade bait for very good player later in the season...possibly even a starting caliber Small Forward.

Bostjan Nachbar will be given every opportunity to start IMO. One reason is that we need to see if he can be a starter on this team. If Boki can not be a starter then I don't think that anyone on the Rockets staff believe that Eddie, Adrian or Glen are the long term answers at that position and they will then use Rice's contract to try to acquire a starting Small Forward if a quality Small Forward is available.

    Worthwhile point. I had discounted him as a full-time 3, but I suppose it's a possibility.

Don't suppose an admin could add him?

    Ron Artest! :D I wish...

I think it will be split. Adrian Griffin will play about 18 minutes...Rice about 18 minutes...Piatkowski about 12 minutes...

Nachbar is still not ready. I don't know what is up with him..

I am sure Mobley and Eddie will play at small forward in certain situations.

    Mobley.

Comments from Pike give the impression that the 3 spot and 2 spot are nearly the same in whatever system VG wants to use. I think Mobley will be guarding the opposing 3 when him and Pike share the floor and that they will be on floor together more than any player listed will be playing at SF.

I personally feel that at the end of games Pike will be the SF for the team, using the 3 guard lineup.

I don't think Nachbar is ready. I don't think Rice will hold up healthwise the full year and A. Griffin is a liability on offense to play for long stretches.

I think Pike will end up playing the most minutes at that position by the end of the year. If not, at least the most "important" minutes.

    My guess:

JVG starts Adrian Griffin, who will work hard and seems like a JVG-type player... and waits to see if Eddie or Boki can overthrow him. By the end of the season, I expect to see one of them starting instead... but they'll have to "earn" it.

I think it'll be a true split of time unless we acquire the right player. I don't think we have a significant player(minute wise) for the small forward position. Cat, EG, Pike and A Griffin will split the time(IMO).

This isn't a video game, man. Those games have no bearing on the real NBA.

Besides.....I tried that on NBA2k and EG got abused :D

    I really have no clue...

Adrian - I feel he will be used just as a stopper or when other guys are tired/injured/ or just at crucial times - he probly won't log more than 20mpg at the MOST.

Eddie - I doubt he'll be used as a SF. We need depth at the PF, and I believe EG and Mo-T should just man that position all game because neither can play 48 and there's no one really to play the PF. Don't say Cato, we need him backin up Yao. Plus, I doubt Eddie can move fast enough to guard the 3's, but Eddie, Cato, Yao would be the most scary defensive frontcourt in the league.

Rice - I voted for him because he'll provide the veteran leadership, he's the best shooter of the players listed on the poll, and he's also the most complete SF we have.

Nachbar - I just don't see him being used too much at this point.

Pike - Joe Joe brought up a real good point...I hope Piatkowski is the one who plays the 3 the most and we have Steve, Cat, and Pike on the court at the same time.

That's the way I see it as well.

Adrian was a starter for the Mavs 2 years ago until he got injured. He is a JVG type player, a defensive minded player, who can rebound and set picks, and he isn't as bad offensively as some here make him out to be.

    Ditto here

I think his offensive limitations are exagerated a little bit on the board(insert shocked face here). Even if he was as bad as Shandn, I don't see that bothering JVG very much considering he needs every shot he can spare to keep the Steve/Yao/Cat monster happy.

i voted rice, but after i read the part about "who do you think will have logged the most minutes at the end of the year" part i would have to vote piatkowski. i think rice will be the starter opening-nite starter simply b/c nobody else is ready for the job. even if he was to get injured (again) or traded i dont see him as starter by years end.

hopefully nachbar will have taken the starting job by years end like everyone thought, but realistically speaking, id say piatkowski.

i wouldnt even be suprised to see JVG throw out eddie at the 3 every now and than. he seems to kind of play in an "horry" style anyway.

i think griffin is a solid addition to our team, but i dont see him being a starter. we need shooters for ming and steve and a shooter he is not. that is why i think piatkowski will end up being the guy by years end.
