Dumesnil farm seems to be in Rosharon, lots of other places closer to my location. I'll give them a shot one day though.
^I don't run into that problem when cooking shrimp and crab together. But I don't use shrimp with the head on. Am I committing a sin here? LOL
Yeah man, Id rather suck shrimp heads over crawfish heads all day. Theyre cheaper but adds more weight to the whole load. So theres a little give and take. Also the Rosharon farm seems way too far. I wonder if they charge more for the services of the purged ones? I usually just get a 35 lb bag wherever I can find it, as long as theyre decent size and not dead.
Haha that's too funny. I'll think about using shrimp with the head on this time. Btw, as far as crab goes, if you ever feeling like doing it... you wanna add them a bit earlier into the boil compared to when you'd add shrimp or even crawfish. It's some tasty stuff if you ever want to boil them.
Pork bones (aka Poke Bones) and turkey necks are a must. Sausage from Lemelle's and shrimp from Duff's out in Ames/Liberty respectively. Don't forget about the corn and potatoes. Add lemons, oranges, a can of pineapple, onions, garlic, mushrooms, bay leaves, chopped bell pepper/celery, honey, and two sticks of butter to the boil. Get a cooler with a spout on the bottom and stick the water hose into the cooler with the spout closed. Fill it with water and let them sit for a while. Then open the spout and let the water run for at least 30 minutes. Before you boil them close the spout and let the cooler fill up with water again. Make sure the water stays clear to ensure that you've purged them enough. And that's how its done. Personally, I'm into frying seafood outdoors at the moment. So there will probably be more fish frys then crawfish boils.
After they are done cooking you should put them in a tub with butter, minced garlic, crawfish powder and shake it up...It adds another level of flavor yum!!
Check your local Krogers or HEB if you want convenience. I like to hit the seafood markets in Kemah for the best and fresh deal on shrimp and crawfish.
Agree with Krogers or Heb. Just ask to check them before you buy them. Dont be afraid to shake them around to see if they move. Hell yeah! Seabrook is the shiz for fresh shrimp and all seafood in general. Crawfish always seems to be sold out over there though if you dont get there early. You are on point in my book, when it comes to a boil.
I'm going to try soda in the next boil like you recommend. Maybe pineapple, can't wait for vacation in March man.
