I got the CD that came out in 04 or 05. Might have been the last hip hop/whatever CD that I ever bought. I think I liked it, but I just grew tired of that genre altogether. It wasn't that CD or Kanye that turned me off; that music just wasn't for me. Now I ask myself, if I still liked that kind of music, would I support a massive douchenozzle like Kanye just because I liked his songs? Probably, yeah. I probably would. Obviously, you can like one thing about somebody while disliking other things about them. But I would be a embarrassed about it deep down and would probably keep it to myself (at least in real life). So it's really just a happy coincidence* that the type of music I like now isn't headlined by someone like him. The next time Tomas Haake or Joe Duplantier act like massive d***s will be the first time. *Or is it.......

ahahhahah. Picasso literally transformed modern art and invented new art forms in the process. kanye copies other art (samples), rearranges, adds some sophomoric nursery rhyme lyrics with a splash of vulgarity added for shock factor, and then proclaims he is the greatest. the fact is in his own genre he can't touch the legend lyricists like eminem, 2pac, nas, talib, ice cube, and rakim. lyrically he can't even touch "great talent" like lamar, fiasco, mos def, common, jay-z, biggie, dre3000, etc... kayne at best is a good producer but an artist/creator he is not.
Kanye is one of the most critically acclaimed artists and has immense respect from legends and peers alike. Not to mention the sales and influence that he has. He is qualified to say he's the greatest.
He literally creates a form of art (rap music). So yes, he is an artist and creator. And for me, Kanye's comprehensive vision > being a good MC.
Actually Picasso's family gave their blessings to kanye http://www.gossipcop.com/pablo-pica...oval-blessing-tribute-florian-great-grandson/ Kanye isn't supposed to be a lyricist everyone knows he's average at best but it's his charisma and production that makes him standout. See you can be a great lyricist but at the end of the day you have to have great music behind you if not you are just wasting those lyrics over dull lifeless instrumentals (eminem, talib, and rakim post eric b.) What's the point of listening to music for just lyrics. Thats like going to a movie and focusing only on the music score. Controversial opinion : eminem is one of the worst artist in hip hop ever in my opinion. Cartoon shock humor rap is just not really something that I find entertaining and then his beat selection is almost always atrocious. I grew out of that music in highschool and am glad I did. One thing I can say is he is influential he brought fourth artist like Hopsin and Odd Future.(sarcasm) Hope this doesn't turn into an eminem thread.
So we all agree he writes **** lyrics, uses auto tune, plays no musical instruments, uses samples of other artists and musicians. His talent is undeniable, clearly the greatest.
yep. even by the likes of Dave Grohl, who plays several instruments, creates his own music, doesn't use auto tune, but writes his own (average) lyrics. the sample thing is overplayed. For every great sample, he has also created his own beats and his attention to detail to production is rare.
Have you seen the number of different producers on his last two albums? Not mentioning the plethora of writers. Kanye hasn't been original in nearly a decade.
Add The Life of Pablo - 50. It's garbage. It's barely even listenable. It will die off in a few months, if not sooner.
http://www.complex.com/music/2015/07/kanye-west-ghostwriter-hip-hop-meek-mill-drake colloborating with more people doesn't mean less creation, means better. there is a RZA clip in there that is quite telling.
The rap music he creates is better and more ambitious than music created by other rap artists. This is why he is a talented rap artist and one of the greatest. If you think that making rap music as a whole is easy and doesn't take talent, then that's fine. Just say it. That way people who do have some respect for rap music as an art from can ignore your critiques.
And much to his detriment. And besides, I'm not sure how MBDTW isn't original. All these rap producers helping Kanye weren't making music of that quality and ambition on their own. Why is that?
