That one looks a little like my puppy... They said Rott / Shep / Husky mix at BARC, but as she's grown and filled out she seems to have some Border Collie or something else in there. She's just over a year old now, 48 lbs and very lanky... boundless energy. If yours follows in that path, get ready to run!
It doesnt have the distinctive Shepherd ears that point straight up and forward. Nor does it look like it has a big tail. But. have no experience with how those traits play out in Shepherd mixes. Does it have webbed paws, indicating some Lab.
Looks similar to my pup, whom I was told is shepherd/lab mix. His mom stopped caring for his litter or something so I rescued him at 3.5 weeks old and fed him formula until he graduated to puppy chow. I mention that because he's got some food allergies which can be a pain, but I tend to think it's because he didn't receive his mother's milk long enough. Nevertheless he's a great dog. He maxed out at about 65 lbs. Bundles of energy and so much love. Good with kids but not so much old people since he gets excited and wants to jump on them. Wonderful dog for home protection with a deep intimidating bark.
You can have it tested and they'll give you a readout of the "melting pot" that is your dog. http://www.wisdompanel.com/
Tough to say. Rottweiler is the obvious answer but I wouldn't be surprised if you ran the DNA and it came up with zero Rotty or Doberman in the results. Congrats on the new pup and a tip of my hat to you for adopting a shelter dog. Now train her well and let her be an ambassador for resuce/shelter/stray dogs everywhere. Folks need to chill with the purebred nonsense. Particularly when the purebred dogs they pay so much money for are sickly and have no characteristics the breed descriptions advertise.
Well, it is National Puppy Day, so here is the little girl today. It has been quite an experience as this is my first puppy ive raised on my own, especially this young.
Yea she's a little spoiled. She gets to come with me to work everyday. Thank God we have concrete floors. She is currently passed out-
Looks like puppy has her favorite banky. (yeah, I know it's a towelie) btw: that's a good training method. Teach them early they have something that's theirs to lay on -- their safe zone, where they are never bad, and get immediate forgiveness for any doggie sins they've recently made and remember. Then you can add a command, "Go get on your X", like for when little kids come over, and you don't want the puppy to get in their faces. Or when you want them off the bed or couch. "Off! Go get on your X."
Rottie / Border Collie mix. The white tipped tail is a signature of the Border Collie. Whoever said Australian Shepherd had the right idea but Aussies have nubby little tails and they're generally about 10-15 lbs. bigger than your typical Border Collie. She looks healthy, happy and is lucky to have such a good owner.
if you have iOS down the Microsoft app fetch. It worked 100% for my dog. Said my dog was 100% akita which he is
Man, thanks for the heads up, but not so sure about the accuracy. First one I tried said Mini Pinscher 99%, then 2nd one I tried said "low match Italian Greyhound". I might just buy the actual DNA test through my vet for about 100 bucks.
