Looking at overall rankings only tells part of the picture. You also have to look at how a team fills its needs. Texas's DT situation is a mess, so it was crucial that they landed the haul they did at that spot. Texas has a glaring need at Safety, and they pull arguably the top one in the country. Desperately need an option at Fox end and the Horns were able to pull Fowler from LSU who is perfect for that position. Buechele was born to run Gilbert's offense, but I never trust a freshman QB. Meanwhile, A&M only signs three players in the front 7 on defense. Risky move for the SEC. Their most obvious need is OL, and while their haul wasn't bad, it hurts that they had both Hudson and Little at one point and lost both. Two 5-star QBs transfer, and the only kid you can bring in is one that was seriously considering signing with North Texas before the Aggie offer. I think that's why the two fanbases feel the way they do, even if the rankings don't suggest *that* much separation.
