For those that have played what are your impressions so far. I didn't get in on the beta but watched a bit of someone streaming the game. I like how you interact with random players in the game and can talk to them immediately to see if they can help you
I like it a lot. Since Destiny doesn't really have anything going for the next year as best as I can tell this seems like it'll be a good distraction. I enjoyed the cover system a lot, but I like those sort of games. One of the cooler things was seeing friends on the map and seeing them move around in real time even if they weren't in your group. I also love all the weapon mods, and being able to rotate your gun to look at it in the inventory. It's pretty much what I was expecting/hoping for it to be. I'm unsure of how they're going to keep the enemies fresh, but again I went from possibly to definitely as far as preordering goes. Played a very short amount of deadzone time before they shut down the servers for maintenance. Not enough to judge.
Game is fun, unfortunately looks like a mic might be necessary. I got lit up in the DZ by groups of 4 lol.
Definitely don't go into DZ alone. Another thing I really loved is the vehicle physics, as well as the snow / fog effects -- all of the effects are really enjoyable (especially the fire). If you shoot tires they explode, and the car level is lowered. If you shoot the windows, they break. The world feels appropriately alive as much as it is dead, it kind of makes you want to save it in a way. I also really like the home base concept that you're building up and it becomes progressively less destroyed. I think Ubisoft has a hit on their hands as long as their DLC isn't awful. I still need to see the end game stuff though, I haven't played DZ enough to judge either way.
Thats why this game is so meh to me. Sometimes I want to unwind in a video game without having to communicate with other people, having done it enough during a workday, and you just cant in this game in the DZ. Really cool concept of open world and dialogue between players but not exactly my cup of tea.
Had the please of testing it on PC and playstation as well. The PC version for a number of users for no reason given would crash alot, freeze, would barely start, etc... Never found out what it was. I still have it installed and it still freezes and crashes so it's nothing I can do. Its a sad shame how badly its optimized. I would never buy this on PC though..
Seems pretty well optimized for me. I run recommended specs. i7-4770K + GTX 970. Game runs flawlessly, running max at slightly below 60fps.
Yeah, thats why I mentioned there was a group that this was happening to with no explanation. I haven't been able to play for a week, and they do server maintenance this morning and it doesn't crash for an hour... The game takes up so much memory and very cpu heavy.
I liked the beta, but I have real concerns about the DZ. I'm pretty sure the servers will have more people per instance in the actual game, but a couple of nights ago about 5 players got together and basically pinned everyone down and PK'd everyone they came across, making it almost impossible for anyone else to get anything done. They'd wait for an extraction notice to go up then haul to the zone and start shooting. Very annoying. I'm worried that the DZ will devolve into nothing but griefers and jack@$$es doing nothing but hogging the best loot to themselves since there's apparently no way to get the best gear without going in there. That's why I hate PvP games *sigh*.
Yeah, last night the DZ was dead. It was just like three people in there and I pretty much killed all the rogues
This might get long, but lots to cover for those who care about this game and other's opinions. I played on PC. I have a GeForce 770 and it ran pretty decent on High settings @ 1440p. I am considering getting a new vcard for this. With the limited amount of content available in this beta, and what info we have of the full game it looks super awesome to me. Graphics: Downgrade it is not. On PC, if you can turn it up, it looks amazing. Even at medium to high, it looks great. The atmosphere and mood set perfectly for this game. I haven't been as drawn into the surroundings of a game this much in a while. The last ones being Tomb Raider and Skyrim that I can recall. Especially when the day cycle hits night. I actually walk, not run, not sprint around the streets in this game. I am completely immersed, and I rarely get that way. I usually just run through games quickly. At one point, it was dark and windy. The wind was pushing the snow along the ground at my feet. Excellent! Gameplay: I initially hoped the game would be an MMO and our "quests" would be missions. HVTs to take out, protect, intel gathering, etc. What we've seen so far in the beta is more or less encounters to take out factions and in the main story rescue an HVT. The fact that it is a 4 player coop, works. It would be silly to see a decimated NYC, and have tons of agents running around in it. It's just 1-4 of you, and the rest of what's left. The cover system feels like Gears of War, but not quite as refined. It took a while for me to get used to it, and still is a bit off to me. For the most part, it works though. On harder difficulties, it's fun since the NPCs's damage is substantial. The PvE content, as little as we have in the beta looks good. I am very excited to see what the full game and DLCs will have for us. Now PvP aka The Dark Zone. I'm not a big PvP person in general, but I play competitive shooters (BF4) and used to dabble in PvP back in my WoW days. I didn't really play to do PvP in this game, but decided to check it out. It's fun, intense, frustrating, and rewarding all at the same time. Extracting loot is scary. At any moment you can get shot trying to get your loot out, and I did get shot in the back a couple times. A few times, I got took, a few times, I was able to take them down. The proximity voice chat is really cool. It was useful to say in real-time if you accidently went rogue to say, "sorry, sorry!" More times than not, people checked their fire, and you were able to clear your rogue status. At one point, a group of us got into fire fights, and ended up rogue. I got taken out, but my squad all ended up in manhunt status. They hunkered down, and I watched as they basically felt like armed robbers in a hostage situation. It was weird, people would approach, and my squad would say, "Don't do it. Leave now, and there will be no issues. If you don't leave in X seconds, we will open fire." Surprisingly, it gave players pause, and they would stand down. The only gripe is, you get taken down pretty fast. So strategy doesn't play as much of a role as you'd like. I hope I'm wrong with the full game. Loot: The best loot is the dark zone. I also found, by talking to other players, that there is definitely pretty darn good loot to be had in PvE as well. Just like any other game. PvP loot will be stronger to give you an edge in PvP. PvE loot will be just fine if you stay predominately PvE. It is just so cool to look at your dude decked out in the gear you've earned.
