I'll admit, I have not watched as much basketball this year compared to the last decade because of the frustrating year the teams been having. But I do make an effort every once in a while. Which brings me to the point of having no idea why thornton gets snubbed when the games in which i've seen him play he's, with no exaggeration, the best player on the rockets on some nights. While Brewer on the other hand has had one of the worst seasons of his career. Is it because of Thorntons defense? It's just puzzling to see as an example of last night Brewer gets the start and Thornton doesn't even play. Just trying to get some perspective on this because i've only watched about 2/3 of the games this season, if that much.
They're both chuckers but MT is more consistent and he's a little bit of a playmaker. Has great chemistry with Dwight.
Brewer pushes the ball and creates havoc defensively. Our "system" works best when there is a fast and chaotic pace. I personally like MT more, but I understand why Brew gets those wing minutes - ENERGY With JSmoove back in the fold, Brewer is already looking less useless
could be defense and trading. though brewer gambles on d a lot he's still better than thornton. but mt surprised me this season hustling on defense. i thought he was gonna be a stiff like harden but he gives effort. brewer by default will be better cuz of his length and speed if they arent trading brewer then the best way to use mt is to give him 10-15mpg and just let him score. since he's a streaky shooter, its more beneficial to use him as a scoring spark and let him do whatever but just for a small part of the game. using him as a spot shooter will never work well since he's streaky. he needs to be in a rhythm. he can do that by getting a consistent 10-15mpg and do nothing but shoot. the other backup sg minutes can go to whoever, but mt should ge ta consistent 10-15 every game im high on mt cuz he surprise dme this season and he can be a really good trade asset in the offseason, or another cheap longterm contract with high value. i thought he was done as a quality palyer but he's far from that.
Your post should be, Thornton vs. Terry. Both have same roles, instant offense off the bench. For some reason, Terry is a JBB favorite and Thornton, not so much. Brewer's role is different. Brewer is instant energy on offense (running floor on fast breaks, staying active w/o ball) and being a disruptor on defense (steals, being a pest with length, etc.). Brew is also a JB favorite, but the only other guy who could push Brewer in his defined role is KJ. And Brewer is leagues ahead of KJ right now.
most of coreys minutes are at sf and they dont think marcus can play sf. they run 3 guard lineups sometimes but they dont like to overdo it. its unfortunate because marcus has played well.
Thronton is a chucker. In a per minute basis he takes almost as many shots as Harden. He can get hot and help you, but when he's not hot, he really hurts, and he is not a good defensive player. He was cheap free agent for a reason. Brewer typically does much less to hurt the team, and is a better defensive player, although not awesome. Brewer has gotten a bad rap because he had such a dog s**t start to the season, but over the last month he is playing much more like the guy we saw last year. In the last 19 games, he's only had a negative +/- in 4 of them. Now that we have Smith, and we're starting to play more like last years hectic team, his value is even higher.
Thornton irritated the F out of me against Dallas. We need him to score off the bench but that doesn't mean ignoring everyone and everything the moment he receives the ball. Team don't even expect him to pass and he doesn't. I'm not saying he should become a pass-first player or anything, but have a bit of reason and logic. What the hell was he doing driving into a crowd of defenders with two guys open? We don't need that kind of hero ball with Ty Lawson and other scorers on the floor with you. I think JB was fed up with him too, yanked him and didn't put him back in till garbage time. Maybe Thornton is who JB was talking about when he mentioned players who don't respect the game?
This. I noticed in tonight's game on the Rox final offensive possession of the third quarter, he dribbled the ball into the paint and jacked up a terrible shot with 4 seconds left. The pelicans dribbled down and shot the 35 foot shot and made it a one point game. If he would have handled the situation better, the Rox could have went for the final shot and it would have been 4 points at worse going to the 4th. For as much grief as Harden gets with his hero ball, Thornton plays it a lot too.
Honestly, Brewer has been better the past month or so. He went from horrific to somewhat cringe-worthy. I mean, not a big improvement but its something. Brewer's defense has been pretty good but I wish he would make at least 40% of those WIDE open corner threes. Thornton has been a godsend some nights. When Harden is struggling and Lawson is lost, Thornton has saved our us from getting blown out. His defense can be okay but he is just too small to be versatile on defense like Brewer. What really hurts Brewer is that Brewer is making 8M and Thornton is a vet-min player. If only we could combine those two together. Perfect backup for Harden/Ariza.
