Hey, Just wondering if any of you have personal sites and/or professional sites you have designed and/or helped on? Curious...
I help run a camp for children with special needs. I developed a site so parents can see what goes on. www.geocities.com/rothdaniel_2000
That's a great site rothdaniel, and an even better cause. It looks like a fun place for everyone involved. We did a benefit for Camp Hope, here in Houston two years ago. They take kids with HIV camping and let them enjoy being kids for awhile. Kids and the outdoors just go well together. We just updated our theatre site this summer. www.fanfactory.org I only helped on it, but I maintain it now. oomp
I think I get more out of it then they do. It is a break from the "real" world. The hardest part of the week is allways saying good-bye on the last day
roth - that's an amazingly wonderful thing you're doing. I know from experience how much it means to the kiddos, as well as how much joy the kids bring to the volunteers. I'd highly recommend anyone with a free Saturday or two, which is just about all of us, to volunteer with the Special Olympics. It's easy, and one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. I've helped out at their bowling, golf, and track & field events. Here's a schedule of the upcoming events in Texas: http://www.sotx.org/calendar/eventTypes.do?eventTypeId=1 If anyone's interested, shoot me an email & I can get you in touch with the right people to get you signed up.
rothdaniel, that's amazing! With all the news we get bombarded with every day about people treating their children like house furniture, it's great to know that there are still people like you out there!
I write and do a fair amount of the regular updating for WiSportsZone.com. I don't actually have my own site though.
I have a personal site, but there's nothing on it at the moment. I used to work here, and the website hasn't changed much since I left.
oomp - got your email & will be in touch once I figure out who you need to talk to. Post a hangout thread whenever one of your shows is opening, I checked out your site & i'd definitely come check you guys out. Another note on the Special Olympics to all you shallow high school/college age guys: there is always quite a few pretty young things volunteering at these events - sororities, cheerleading squads, etc... - at least at the 4 I've been to. Just trying to provide some extra motivation.
rothdaniel, It really makes no difference and if you wish not to answer that is fine, but I am curious, do you have children of your own? What sparked your interest in this program?
I have one child, a daughter who does not have any special needs. I have been helping at the camp since 1989. I started by helping as a Cub Scout leader for a special needs cub scout den (trying to do something "good" with my spare time). The den then evolved into the camp. Our first camp only had 10 campers, many of which were from our cub scout den. I actually explain the story at:Camp Story
Guys, don't ever post your links. While you might be a quite sexy white rapper, my guess is you suck at boxing.
