If they already charge for delivery, should I leave a tip. Don't flame me, I used to wait tables, so I know what it means to be tipped. I think they're already charging me 3 bucks for delivery, so with tip, 14 bucks worth of food will end up costing 20. Again, I have no problem with tipping, but am I essentially tipping twice?
Yeah whats up with that? $9.99 for a pizza then there is some hidden charge when they give you the total its like $13.75???? When the hell did the freaking pizza tax go up that high??? I dont understand that.....
I've never heard of a company charging for delivery. That's why I usually tip (if the guy is on time). If they charge for delivery, I don't see the point in tipping.
http://www.tipthepizzaguy.com/qna/#delcharge Do you still tip when there is a $2 delivery charge? It's unusual to have a delivery charge that high. The most I've seen is $1 and it did not go to the driver's tip, so you should still tip. Please ask the store -- you might have to ask a manager. Find out how much goes to the driver's tip and not to other things like mileage compensation or hourly wage. In smaller stores, the $2 covers the driver's hourly minimum wage, so you should still tip. Some of it might go to the driver's tip or nothing might. It varies from store to store. It costs the store more to have your pizza delivered. They have to cover liability auto insurance and a few other things. Having a delivery charge is one way to compensate. It's like a business fee. Most of the time, the driver doesn't see it. I'm surprised the store tells you there's a delivery fee. I wish they wouldn't. They go out of their way to mess up the driver. Some places advertise "free delivery" which confuses people into not tipping. Others mention a delivery charge, making people think it's a gratuity. The store's action is completely unnecessary (when the driver receives nothing.) Our advice is to look past the delivery fee -- it's part of the total. If the $2 fee does not go to the driver's tip, consider it part of the bill. After all, it goes to the same place, the store. You should still tip the driver. If some of it goes to the driver's tip, you may reduce the tip by that amount.
I gave him three bucks any way. Sounds like I should get into the pizza making business. Low overhead and high costs.
When I was a driver, the delivery charge was only used at one place out of the four different places I worked. And it did not go to the driver...a driver will normally get a small commission per delivery...but it was only .75 or $1..those barely cover gas on a good night. (Keep in mind i havent delivered since the mid 80's, so Im not sure what the commission is now) If the driver is ontime and the pizza is still hot/warm and not sloshed all over the box...you should still tip him/her. Gas and maintenance are expensive when you use your car for deliverying every night.
All I know is if the dude comes around and he's wearing a blue thing around his neck that looks like this: ...you'd better damn well give him whatever he wants!
I was watching CNBC a few weeks ago and they were saying a lot of Pizza chains are trying to discourage people from ordering delivery and would rather have them come in and pick up their pizza. The "delivery charge" is one way they try to encourage this.
I've moved on from delivery, and I'm never going back. 5 bucks for a large pepperoni carry-out from Little Ceasar's. Isn't that the greatest deal on the planet? I'm going to be 300 pounds in a year's time because of this!
My local Pizza Hut here in Plano charges a $1 delivery fee. I still tip a normal amount without deducting the $1 fee from the amount I was going to tip. Of course, it's not tipping I believe in, but overtipping.
I usually overtip as well. Getting 2 extra large cheese pizzas delivered to the dorm at 1am is worth $20 ($14 + $6 tip)
We had a Dominos just open in our area about a month ago. I called them last night for a delivery and was instructed that they don't do anymore deliveries... Then, it was going to be an hour and a half for a pick-up...
Back when I used to eat pizza, I never had it delivered. I don't like to tip, so I picked it up at the restaurant. Win-win situation for all.
My pizza delivery guys suck. They're always forgetting our soda or they dont have any of those pepper and cheese packets. My mom doesn't ever tip them. Sometimes I hook them up with a couple of bucks. I wish they were hot. India guys dont do it for me.
"Mikie, is he clean?? is he clean? Mikie..is he cute? is he cute?? Mikie, ask him in Mikie...have him take off his shoes, Mikie. is he brown? is he a brown man, Mikie?"
