About 2 weeks ago, I started getting crazy emails that had attachments with .pif or .scr from people that I had no idea who they were. I deduced that it had to be some of worm like the Klez worm and I was able to delete all these emails off-line by using my work computer instead of my home computer. Well, now it is going on again. Once again, I am receiving emails that have attachments, most of these have the .pif extension. The titles are things like: "Thank you" "Re: Your application" "Re: Wicked screensaver" "Re: Approved" I am deleting, of course, like I did before but I guess I have 2 questions: 1) Is this worm the Klez one or a stronger version or something else? 2) When will I quit receiving these damn emails? When whoever is infected with gets it off their machine?
I just started getting these as well. I'm getting through a listserv I'm on, so I'm trying to get taken off that list as soon as possible!
Yeah, I've been getting that garbage, too. I've been very careful about virus protection (jimmy hats on all fingers), but I swear my computer has been acting funny lately. Sometimes, the borders around IE go black, and the computer slows down. I've run every anti-virus I know, but nothing seems to be outta the ordinary. Could it be a virus? Or just a screwed-up driver somewhere?
Manny, It is the sobig virus like Coma said. Here is the fix for it: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sobig.f@mm.removal.tool.html
Okay, however I don't think that my machine is infected. I think someone else's machine is infected and they are the ones that are sending these emails to me. I have not opened any of these emails on my own home computer. They have all been opened off-line from my work computer. As long as I don't click on the attachments, I don't see how I can be in trouble, right?
I'm just gonna keep saying it until more of ya'll start listening... BUY A MAC!!!! ...and stop worrying about Viruses.
Shut up Fox... Manny, sobig is going around again...it is due to come back around with the next iteration on the 12th. just keep deleting them as they come in..as long as you dont have the preview pane activated or you dont open them..you should be ok. keep the virus definitions up to date as a matter of course..
I didn't want to start a new thread but hopefully someone reading this thread can help me. I have a popup problem and it is fuccing driving me crazy. I have all of the Pop up defense mechanisms in place and cannot thwart this popup that periodically throws a site 'xtrocash.com' up in a new browser and It's driving me bonkers. Is anyone else having this one and can someone help. C
Dude sounds like spyware... I'd do two things. 1. Get Ad-Aware - an awesome/free spyware remover. I run this every so often, IE downloads so much BS... This program can be tricky sometimes so be careful of what you remove. There is also SpyBot which I've heard great things about. 2. Get the Google Toolbar - with built-in pop-up blocker. It's free and it rocks. Oh and Manny - Don't you read the other threads that talk about these viruses??? Like 3 weeks ago (8/19)....
I've been having similar problems. Sometimes when I'm on the internet using Explorer, a little streak of red right above the task bar will appear and the computer will freeze up, forcing me to turn off the computer and turn it back on. It's driving me nuts; I added more ram to it, which didn't help, and I can't figure anything else. I'm about to just conclude that Internet Explorer/Windows is screwy.
wtf is albarauto? i keep getting messages that say i'm getting a problem email and that is the address that always comes up, albarauto from aol.com i think. there appears to be some sort of albar auto in sweden but wtf does that have to do with anything and why would they send me stuff.
Sonny, Of course, I read that thread, but I can't remember everything! I guess my biggest question is this: When will I stop receiving these blasted emails? When whoever is infected with this gets rid of it? I got 103 emails this morning
Dude in less than two weeks we've blocked over 22,000 of these emails..... I know what you are going through.
