http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1609680 Miami Heat: The signing of free agent Rafer Alston gives coach Pat Riley the point guard he had been looking for after signing Lamar Odom last week. The 6-foot-2 Alston averaged 7.8 points, 4.1 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 47 games with Toronto last season. Alston signed a 10-day contract with the Raptors last season and was later signed for the remainder of the season. Alston has averaged 4.2 points, 2.9 assists and 1.4 rebounds in his four-year NBA career with Milwaukee and Toronto. He was a second-round draft choice by the Bucks in 1998. Alston will help back up rookie Dwyane Wade, the Heat's first-round draft pick, at the point. He will be part of a four-guard set with Caron Butler and Eddie Jones next season. Odom was signed away from the Los Angeles Clippers last week and could see time at as many as four positions next season.
I remember watching him in a Raptor's game last year and he made a pretty big impact when he was in the game. He never got that much playing time and tried to make some "and1" moves and Lenny pulled him. Wonder if Riley can settle him down. If so, he could be a nice NBA 1.
we should of tried to sign him... lets hope the moochies new haircut is a positive sign of renewed Moochie
Looks like the Heat won't be signing Kenny Anderson. I'm surprised Riley would want anything to do with Alston.
Other than his occasional skipping he really tones down his game for the NBA. He should fit nicely into the new fast-paced offense.
I agree, Rafer tones his game down a little too much if you ask me. His stats double Moochie's and he comes in alot cheaper. If Pat is working to make the Heat a more athletic, up and down team, Rafer would fit in perfectly.
