The Beijing CBA team made the statue & museum for him, after he took that team to 3 CBA titles in 4 years. Along the way, he mentored the younger players, created a hard-working culture there, brought the excitement to Beijing with his playing. He is well deserve everything he got there. I cannot believe I just said that! BTW, it's not like it's so easy to make it in CBA. Guys like Arenas, Artest, Bonzi Wells, Steve Francis, etc, all tried there, but none of them had much success near what Marbury has. Even for him, the initial couple years were rough, he didn't do very well with his first team. Only when he signed with the Beijing team, he started turning everything around, impacted the game in a big way.
There you go again, talking out of your ass. First, his nickname "Starbury" was given to him as a kid, before HS even. Nobody "came along and labelled him 'Starbury'". Much less as a means to criticize him ... smdh Second, not only did he never win a playoff series his entire career, but he missed the playoffs more often than not. Third, two teams were drastically transformed the moment they traded him. Nets with Kidd made it to the finals the next year. And we all know how good PHO was the moment it became Nash/Amare instead of Marbury/Amare -- they went from 29 wins to 62 in one year. Marbury deserved all the criticism he got in the NBA. He even says it now, that he is a transformed person. Quit re-inventing history as some way to say everyone is blind to the knowledge what has. You obviously did not watch the NBA much during Marbury's career.
Regardless of who started the name "starbury" it was used to criticize him. As far as the Kidd trade, are you seriously comparing a 28 year old hall of fame player to a 23 year stephon marbury? Not only that but Kenyon Martin was a year older and a year better. crazy. Again with the suns, marbury's suns lost to the spurs who won the championship that year 2-4, with a 20 year old Amare Stoudmire. When Nash gets Amare, he's 22, and Nash (another hofer) is 30. And guess what, they lost to the spurs too. But this time it was 1-4. I'm not suggesting that Marbury was some hall of fame player, but he certainly was far better than people remember him as. The guy was a great player. Period.
I'm not suggesting you don't know how google to continue re-inventing history when you are called out for talking out of you ass with no actual knowledge of the events, like you just did. No one is saying what you say they did. You are mistaken about both ppl always criticizing him and that he was a great player, period. The nickname was not a criticism at first, whatsoever. It only became one, because he was more a star than a team player, and he played PG, so his destiny like Baron Davis and Steve Francis was in his control. He had trouble even getting to the playoffs, and his teams immediately transformed into title contenders the very next year, twice in his career. Not playing close to .500 ball with Amare, Shawn Marion and Joe Johnson was enough for the Suns to discard him. A great PG at least gets them to the playoffs. You don't remember that year at all. Period.

I actually remember Marbury owned Tony Parker at the start of that series, but they had no match for Duncan. Not making a vote on how good of a player he was, just brings back memories. Should have stayed with KG. Never had another star on KG's level, not even close.
Not sure about that. What is true is that he is a big moma boy. His mother often flies to watch his games. He got a wife and kids. He still cares about Coney Island and his relatives, brothers in NY. He gives them money for education.
Good for him, and I couldn't stand him or his ballhogging, dribble happy ilk. His NBA career fizzled out and instead of falling apart and pouting he fully embraced his new situation and it seems to be working out well for him. It's easy to cap on somebody as if succeeding in China is merely a joke, but he's living comfortably playing ball. He's handled the back end of his able years a hell of a lot better than his NBA doppleganger Francis.
Funny thing his doppelgaenger Francis who was playing with him as a Knickerbocker also played for Beijing before him. Spoiler

"I am Marbury, we are all Marburies." China is awesome. Marbury to the communist party? I never liked him when he was in the NBA, few did probably, but happy that he's found his place, it looked like his life might be going down the drain back when he was eating vaseline. Now it looks like he's in a good place and he might even keep doing something special after his playing days are over.
Agree one hundred percent, Marbury devoted himself physiological and psychologically in CBA and mostly importantly in Chinese Culture. Deserves respects from both USA and China.
