If there are truer words, I haven't heard them.

    Merry Christmas, Rockets brehs!

It takes place during the Christmas season (at an office Christmas party) but other than that, Christmas plays very little role in the movie. It isn't like A Christmas Story or Scrooged, where Christmas is the subject matter. Regardless, a basically flawless movie that can be watched anytime, but the Christmas elements make it a holiday favorite.

It's a Wonderful Life is considered a Christmas movie, but it has little, if anything, to do with Christmas. I've long maintained that if It's a Wonderful Life is a Christmas move then so is Die Hard.

On the contrary, the original name of the short-story was "The Greatest Gift." The writer couldn't get it published, so he turned it into a 21-page Christmas card and sent out 200 copies.

So, not only is it meant as a reminder of what are true gifts, in a story where the protagonist learns the lesson on Christmas Eve, and in that sense, it's a lot like A Christmas Carol ... but "It's a Wonderful Life actually started out as a Christmas card.

    The Greatest Gift
    by Philip Van Doren Stern

Unable to find a publisher for "The Greatest Gift," Philip Van Doren Stern printed two hundred copies of the story and distributed them as Christmas cards in 1943. From this humble beginning, a classic was born. Van Doren Stern's story captivated Frank Capra, who said he "had been looking for [it] all [his] life." Capra's beloved adaptation, It's a Wonderful Life, starring James Stewart, Donna Reed, and Lionel Barrymore, was released in 1946; and while the film—which received Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director—failed to win an Oscar, it did secure a place in the American holiday tradition.

It is not a Christmas movie. What about violence death and guns speaks to you "Christmas spirit" ? You say to your small kids oh lets watch this nice christmas movie all together? No.
It is just a convenient excuse for men who can't bear to watch anything else that doesn't have blood to go through the christmas season.

    Of course it is.

"Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho."

Run DMC Hollis Queens is played while John McClane goes to the party

Theo: All right, listen up guys. 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, except... the four assholes coming in the rear in standard two-by-two cover formation.

Hans Gruber: It's Christmas, Theo. It's the time of miracles. So be of good cheer... and call me when you hit the last lock.

Not all Christmas movies were meant for small kids, and nothing gets me into the Holiday Spirit better than Die Hard.

exactly as I said pretty convenient for men who are addicted to movies with blood and violence. Oh I forgot "action" movies. Like the only action is murder and bullets.

Just explain what exactly is christmas about this movie? The background? Maybe you think that killing people is christmas-y.

Home Alone 1 & 2 would be a better choice.

I'm more annoyed by the promotion of The Soud of Music as a Christmas movie.

The Sound of Music is NOT a Christmas movie

Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It may be blasphemous, but John McClane plays God with a gun. Ho ho ho!
