Ya Locksley could be darkhorse candidate. With Swoopes, Heard, Locksley, and Merrick, we have a lot of raw talent on the roster. Don't want to keep beating a dead horse, but just a shame how much time we wasted with Watson. If Gilbert can develop Locksley, we could potentially have a pretty special player IMO. As for Murray, I'm somewhat torn as I wouldn't want to push away our current commits in Shane Buechele and Sam Ehligner. But Murray would instantly be the best QB on the roster even though he wouldn't be an immediate help. I wouldn't worry about his dad too much and the talent is undeniable.
Does Murray automatically lose a year of eligibility? I read somewhere that if ATM lets him go and he stays eligible, he does not lose a year. Can someone enlighten me on the rules.
Pretty much if you transfer you sit a year. He cant play baseball this year either from what Ive heard.
I don't want those commits to be pushed away either. But if Murray is being recruited by Malik Jefferson to come here, then we need to keep Malik happy, he's pretty much the only thing good about the defense this year.
Our QB's totally suck. It's freaking ridiculous to think we wouldn't go after an available 5 star QB transfer. Locksley might have potential, but shoot - if he couldn't get playtime last year, how good could he be???
He was a true freshmen? No matter how good a guy is, its incredibly hard to come in and start as a true freshmen. Redshirting was good for him. Gain some strength and get reps in practice. The QB situation is of course a big question mark. But give the new OC time to pick his guy. I think Heard has the ability, just got to cater the offense to him. We know he can throw the deep ball on 1 on 1's. Just got to get him comfortable throwing short and medium routes. Nobody knows how good Kai will be, but give it time. Murray is interesting but I dont think he has the arm. The only thing that sucks about it is we basically lost out on Mack and the other WR who were going to commit with Murray to UT if he didnt happen to make the terrible decision of going to aggy land.
True about Locksley. I have never seen him play tbh. I don't really know his potential. Just saying he definitely is not enough of a sure thing for us to get selective about 5 star QB transfers out there. We should be stalking him, Kyle Allen, Trevor Knight, that guy Uncle Rico from Napoleon Dynamite, anybody out there. Also, how can you be downing Kyler Murray due to arm strength and then still be optimistic on Heard?????
99er, he's called a true freshman. you realize that Vince Young was red shirted his freshman year right? you are a little too negative on the longhorn front. maybe you need to watch some hoops

We flipped Locksley from Florida State. VY is his idol

From childhood idol.. How can you be downing Locksley when you admit you've never seen him play? There was a good chance Locksley was going to RS no matter what last season. And I'd bet that Murray and A&M wish they would have done the same if they could do it over. From a pure football standpoint, I agree that we should be all over Murray and Knight but there is a lot more at play. Truth is that Murray won't take another snap until the 2017-2018 season so he provides zero immediate help. Also, Murray and his dad brings some serious baggage and I won't fault Strong if he ultimately decides it's not worth it, especially considering he has to sit out next season. As for Knight, he originally committed to A&M before flipping and would almost be guaranteed the starting job so A&M makes a lot of sense. Also read that transferring into a graduate program at UT is extremely difficult so there is possibility that Knight couldn't get in even if he wanted.
That's called Robert Horry-ism. I think Locksley might be good because he could play either wide out or qb (like TCU's Boykin and that his dad is Maryland's Offensive coordinator. That's good qualities. Reading what oakdogg wants is this: he wants strong fired and we hire Nick Saban/Meter guy. The chances of that happening are 0. but in his mind, he thinks it will happen at the snap of his fingers. He also seems to forget that all this is because of Mack Brown. The Strong recruits have been great so far, we got 3 freshmen all americans.
This is silly, people. As should be obvious, we should not be rolling into next season full of confidence about the QB position. Passing on 5 Star QB's because of this Locksley feller??? The dude was signed up as an Athlete (not QB), and I'm out of it for not rocking his jersey??? I hope for the best, but we have to put an end to this QB drought above everything else!!!!
you're making things up in your head. show me the article where it says "Longhorn coaches refuse any 5 star qbs". nada. you are the one dogging on Locksley and saying that after admitting he hasn't played. I just said that some of us Longhorn fans want to see him play, but I guess I'm crossing you off that list of people who want to see him play. I'll definitely tell you when I make the Longhorn staff and deny 5 star qbs. I'm not there yet pal.
