Also one last note about the Moto X. If you're a T-Mobile customer, dont bother with buying the Moto X as you wont get integrated wifi calling, band 12 support and proper VoLTE support. The Nexus phones (including the original Nexus 6) will give you all three of those.
I can say I'm a happy owner of the 6P. Never got to try the Moto X Pure, but I can tell you that you won't be disappointed with the 6p. Hardware wise it can match any phone out there right now. To me honestly, it's the best phone I've ever owned.
You made the right move. The 6P is nice but it isnt 250 dollars better. Unless you hate the size of the Nexus 6, you made the right move. I myself switched to a cheap Nexus 6 and wouldn't think twice. I do recommend actually buying a dbrand skin for the Nexus 6 because that back is slippery as hell (plus its a fingerprint magnet).
For the rest of you guys who bought the 6P early, someone on Reddit said they were able to do some price protection claim with their credit card. If you find a lower price within 90 days, your card will refund the $50 difference. Unfortunately, my bank doesn't offer this.
I crossed out the nexus 6 way back because I heard battery life on it was really bad. Of course this was at a $300 price point. As a Tmobile user, I guess I'm better off with the 6P vs Moto X
The battery life issues were fixed with Android 6.0. I don't really have any complaints about the battery anymore. Im a heavy user and I have no issues making it through the day. The standby times on Android 6.0 are almost as good as iOS standby times. It's a gigantic improvement. With that said, my big beef with the Nexus 6 is the camera. The 6p blows away the Nexus 6 camera. But I didn't want to pay very much so the Nexus 6 became the default choice
This was reported awhile back that it would receive some of the features. http://www.tmonews.com/2015/11/moto...-band-12-lte-support-with-android-6-0-update/
I stopped trusting Motorola with software updates. They've been just awful since Lenovo took over. Eventually they'll probably add Band 12 support and VoLTE but who knows when. And wifi calling appears to be out. Go with the 6p if you use TMobile. There's no point in paying that much if you are missing key features.
There have been plenty of reports of T-Mobile customers ejecting their SIM cards, downloading the 6.0 software, and having band 12 activated. It doesn't seem like it's Motorola/Lenovo's fault at this point; it's most likely just T-Mobile taking their time to certify the MXPE for band 12 use. What motive does T-Mobile have to certify? After all, they want to sell their phones.
It takes around 6 months to do VoLTE certification testing. I'm guessing that's the issue. This is common issue for all devices for all carriers. However, TMobile links VoLTE and Band 12 together since there are now Band 12 only markets that require VoLTE to make phone calls. More specifically there are liability issues because if you had Band 12 but not VoLTE in one of these areas, you'd technically be unable to make a 911 call because phones aren't smart enough to roam onto another carrier to make the 911 call.
Hey do you know if 3rd party sms apps can take advantage of RCS? T-mobile just released the 5.1.1. update for the Note 4 and includes advanced messaging.
None that I know of. It wont take off until the other carriers catch up. TMobile is so far ahead of the other three carriers on implementing IMS features that 3rd parties dont really have much of an incentive to support it yet. You need other carriers to implement RCS and then enable cross carrier interoperability before third parties start to care about it. Until then, RCS based texts will be a tiny fraction of texts.
I upgraded to the S6edge+ Not really using the edge screen, but the screen itself is ****ing gorgeous.
Oh I know. I'm just saying that 3rd parties aren't bothering to support RCS until cross-carrier RCS becomes a thing.
Anyone have a good recommendation on what case to get for a 6P? Preferably one that isn't too bulky but can protect it if dropped on hard surface.
I'm using this: http://www.amazon.com/SpigenĀ®-Rugged-Resilient-Ultimate-protection/dp/B016CBFBVI but I wouldn't pretend that it'd take a big drop. It's more of a rigid TPU. Here's a nice thread that has reviews on a bunch of cases for the Nexus 6P. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/accessories/case-comparison-spigen-diztronic-tudia-t3247746
