Josh Smith is the biggest part of the team that needed to stay. We are missing a stretch 4 and def in middle !! We knew that jones was not the guy last year way Morey did not move him is beyond me!!
lots of dumb posts on here bashing Morey and analytics. Morey's job is to assemble the best talent he can--and he did. He brings new scientific tools to the table and innovative ways of thinking to help identify up and coming talent. He made due with never picking higher than 14th in a draft. The guy is a genius but he isn't infallible. He still has to due what the owner wants and at the end of the day, he can't personally motivate the players to play defense or do well beyond helping them get a ridiculous paycheck. You can't ping the current Rocket failures on Morey--you can ask him to help fix it, and what better person is there to do exactly that???
It's silly to say it's not Morey's fault. Everyone is at fault here. Something went wrong somewhere, you can't just point to the coaches and players. The GM and even the owner get blame honestly.
He failed in a time we needed him the most. Everyone knew Mchale was a great coach for this specific team a few years back when we were the youngest team in the league. They also knew when it was time to truly contend we would need a real coach to take it to the next level. Instead of finding that coach, he extended Mchale. So far his biggest mistake as Rockets' GM.
You have an MVP candidate in Harden You have a Top 3 Center in Howard Top Assist PG in Lawson Top rated defender in Ariza Crazy deep bench at every position Not sure really what else you want the owner and GM to do...it's on the players and coaches now. Do the GM and owner get the blame for Harden's *****ty defense? Dwight's decline? Lawson's inability to do what he did in Denver? Its up to Morey and Les to fix the problem--but to say they caused the problem or should shoulder the blame is really not understanding how a corporation works. They need to get the train back on the track--YES--but you can't fault them for the original design. This current team is pretty much the same--and actually better on paper--than the one that went to the WCF last year. Nothing wrong with the train itself, but it is obviously not being driven nor performing as it should. If they don't do anything to help the situation this year, and become complacent with the group, then blame them for not being effective leaders. But all these posters screaming at LES and Morey for their performance to date is just smh-worthy. Will a new GM get Dwight to rebound harder? Will a new GM find better 2nd rounders than Morey? Will a new GM have the foresight to trade relative garbage for a perennial MVP candidate in Harden? You want to take that chance??
I'm not pinning it on just Morey. I'm saying he's partly to blame also, as is Les. I'm sure even he himself would say that. HeyPartner said it best in another thread weeks ago. He stated Les gave the reigns to Morey to not just get the players, but also hire a coach that would implement his offensive schemes. That obviously crashed this year. So yea, it's everyone's fault.
lol. Everybody shoulders blame EXCEPT the GM of the team? The GM that hired the coach, created the roster & implemented his own style of play? Smh. This thread is beyond comical
Yes, I do, I believe Morey wanted McHale - or at least he had one of the final says. Maybe I should have phrased it better, but I was inferring that maybe they no longer believe in him or his system - and as such are just going through the motions. Has to be something that is causing them to basically quit. DD
Vindicating Daryl Morey is laughable , who hired the coach...actually...who hired a puppet deliberately to implement his philosophy? He hired the personnel. The team is playing the way he wants them to play. He wants them to jack up a bunch of 3pters, while simultaneously never making an effort to trade or sign a specialist. Its mind boggling, even to the watermelons on ESPN. Is it ALL his fault? No Is he to blame? Yes. There is a reason Cyber reported that he was on the hot seat.
The difference is that Harden turned from a guy that genuinely cared about doing everything for winning into a self-absorbed guy who has not been good at dealing with the negative influence from the Kardashian family and the associated media hype. Trust me, I know how it feels being a young guy who is in a relationship with a chick a lot of guys fancy, a chick that is somewhat famous. You just get distracted, to say the least.
I really can't decide. The hiring, and much more the extension, of McHale is a mystery to me. Was it Les or was it Morey? If I had to guess, I would lean more on Les. Historically, Les has been the one who decides on coach hiring and firing.
You could easily say the opposite and it would honestly make much more sense; Morey haters are forever finding excuses to blame Morey. Morey is not completely blameless here though and this is coming from a huge Morey supporter. He should have gotten more deadeye shooters who can slash. We though Ariza was that person, but obviously he has regressed. Beverley is getting better at shooting, but he is no where near elite. D-Mo is still getting back into it. Brewer could never shoot threes. T-Jones... LOL we don't even know if he could still play ball at this point with how he regressed each year. Terry can shoot, but he's too old now. Harden is not an elite shooter and is streaky as hell. He did good getting us Thornton, especially for loose change, but we need more of those types of players. We need someone like Dudley or Redick on our team.
