I imagine there are all kinds of implied consent and liability disclaimers plastered on tickets or around the stadium. I can't see security guards being arrested for any of this as it could deter other large scale event staffers from taking the contract, and the risk of 40,000 teenagers in a concentrated area is bigger than that of a couple of overzealous guards. U of H probably has a decent protocol for mediating student and contract staff issues, in this case they will probably issue some campus announcements to the students and leverage some pricing concessions from CSC.
^they'll definitely be fired for PR reasons. Throwing punches definitely looked excessive, and I could see that staffer facing more repercussions. I think the suplex is bordering excessive. Fans that rush the field during play do get wrestled to the ground, and that move could be in that gray area. Here's some that happened this year. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/NPDGX1fZSz8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <blockquote class="twitter-video" lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Game saving tackle <a href="http://t.co/gWpMKHE91Q">pic.twitter.com/gWpMKHE91Q</a></p>— JavonMcKinley (@mcjavon) <a href="https://twitter.com/mcjavon/status/652998316104527872">October 11, 2015</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I thought the NCAAs didn't allow liquor or beer in the stadium or sold. I suppose a few brought shots in, but doubtful it was a stampede of drunk people like you say.
Houston parts with security company The University of Houston will sever ties with CSC after reviewing a video that surfaced of a guard hitting a fan in the head area following the Cougars' 24-13 win over Temple on Saturday, according to an athletic department official. -espn
Beer is sold at the concessions at UH games. Hard Liquor is available in the club area and Yeoman Hall.
Obviously racial profiling. The university is saying that the only wealthy Caucasian people know how to control themselves in public. I am outraged.
ok. I stand corrected. Notre Dame doesn't allow it. Virginia Tech doesn't (or didn't.) CU doesn't. Rice doesn't. But those are the only stadiums I've been to in a long time. I've never seen alcohol sold at an NCAA basketball game, either.
Dorms also don't allow anyone under 21 to have liquor in their room, as enforced by give a **** RAs whose girlfriends you buzz in at 2 in the morning.
Serious question: Do you think the problem at the stadium was a stampede of drunk people. If so, then bigtexxx's "dumbasses" comment was spot on, and pretty much anyone caught drunk on the field (especially minors) will give the CSC a legal defense...one would think. Further, a stampede of drunk people would be bad for the University to have allowed excessive consumption of alcohol in their stadium, and (if bunches of students were drunk), they will probably impose an alcohol ban in the stadium like many other college football and basketball stadiums already do. So, do y'all still want to talk about "5k drunk students" rushing the field...or do you want to back off that statement and say they actually weren't drunk.
I was in that section and if there were that many drunk people in the stands I did not really see it. I was actually surprised by the reaction, no one really attempted to fight back against the csc event staff members. There were however alot of expletives directec at the staff, myself included.
Not unless you disregard keggers, pep rallies, tailgates and pretty much all the other regular weekend activities at a large public college in a major city.
Tailgating culture at UH is not nearly as prevalent as it is at other large football schools. I was surprised by how short the beer lines are at the games too in the student section. Actually, I remember court rushing a couple of hoops games in undergrad at another school, and 5k drunk fans is not really an appropriate description. It's usually just joyous 18 to 21 year olds.
I'm saying it's a reasonable possibility and risk worth considering. Really doesn't need to be more than that.
Yeah, beer is sold inside the stadium. I had three myself. Plus, tailgating is pretty big before UH games too. Always good to get some pre-game before the real game lol. Of course, the whole stampede wasn't drunk but there was a good handful of them in the stands. Yelling to everyone to "Take the field" during the 4th. CSC tried though, but still have no clue why they tried to stop all those students. It's a championship game, let them cheer for a great season.
