Small, but important distinction to make even if it only helps us get a better understanding of what was going on prior to the shooting

 

Define not involved? It appears ISIS was involved in that the shooters followed the lead of ISIS propaganda. They may not have coordinated the attack directly with ISIS in the Middle East but I have little doubt ISIS and it's ever extending reach played some type of role in this.

 

There is a big difference between them being explicitly involved vs providing "inspiration"

They might not be ISIS operatives but they were at the very least inspired by ISIS.

If anybody had any remaining doubts about Obama's cluelessness and inability to lead, they have all been extinguished. He is a national embarrassment and has no business being in the position he's in. He's simply in over his head, and incapable.

Once it was discovered that they had bomb making room in their home I think you could rule out this just being a case of people going postal.

Not Obama, he was still leaving the door open to "workplace violence" or "holiday party gone bad".

This was clearly the aloha snackbar / koranimal crew.

 

This couple had tactical body armor, a workshop in the garage making pipe bombs(over 1 dozen in storage), they found an IED rigged to an RC car and over 5000 rounds of ammo. They had been planning this for awhile, so whether directly ordered by ISIS, or just loosely affiliated, I think this is definitely a case of planned terrorism. Why does it matter if they received a direct order anyways? I don't think someone in Syria is micro-managing willing terrorists worldwide in planning these incidents.

 

It could be the nightmare case, but not quite. There apparently were connection that were missed, ignored, or maybe not treated as severe enough. They can learn from this and improve there detection. If there were no connection, than yes, what can you do?

This is why, I'm generally okay with more intrusive government spying on its own citizen (with appropriate and necessary safe guards and strict limited use - i.e. only for terrorists detection).

 

The possibility occurs to me that ISIS is now targeting recruits with "clean" records. If you've seen any of the reports of how sophisticated their recruiting and operations organizations are, it is very possible that they understand the value of bringing in recruits with totally clean records to carry out these attacks in Western countries. In other recruiting, they classify you based on your skills, not everyone serves by being a soldier. They recruited trained filmmakers for their propaganda pieces, trained computer programmers, social media experts, etc. Their operation is 21st Century, even if their beliefs and the way they run their territory is Medieval. That is something the public doesn't fully understand yet.

BTW, I picked up most of this information watching Al-Jazeera America. IMO, the best news channel around.
