Wanted to get the general feeling of the board... We can talk about effort, in shape vs. out of shape, Kardashians, shoe deals, poor offense and poor defense, blah blah blah... Simple question: are the Rockets just not very good? Is it possible that our "superstar" guard is fool's gold depending on his mood and that night's whistle, and our "superstar" center is on a rapid decline with no real post game? Did last season's run unrealistically raise expectations and what we're seeing this year is the true picture of what this team really is? Or are the Rockets really a good team going through a tough stretch for all of the reasons above?
Define "very good team" DMo will help and the team on whole can't/wont blow as hard as they have been. We'll finish 10 games above .500, then get beaten in the 1st Round.
The record shows that we are not a good team, there's no two ways about it at this point Everyone regressed, and team chemistry regressed to basically nothing
It's the Moreyball system. The Rockets don't run plays on offense. What does that mean? It means guys like Harden & Brewer end up driving into the lane with literally 3 defenders in front of him BEGGING for fouls. It means guys are jacking up 3's that can't shoot all because our system permits them too. It means 8/10 times the ball ends up in Harden's hands for an ISO which basically nobody is moving. I HATE Moreyball and think it makes guys like Ty Lawson look horrible because their reduced to spotup shooters. Moreyball needs to go asap
we ****ing suck. Been watching this team since the 80's and cannot recall a team that seems to care less about playing hard. Last year we moved the ball well 50% of the time and watched James dribble 50% of the time. Now it's like 80% James dribbling, 20% pretending to move the ball sort of not really
I still think it is mostly a defensive issue. Yes, our offense sucks, but it's hard to score in the halfcourt every possession. When you can't get a stop to save your life, you are relying on scoring solely in half court sets. Even when we were "good" last season, we were never a good half court offensive team. We played tough D, and had our defense lead to easy offense. That is the way this team was built. If we can get the defense back to a respectable level, I really believe the offense will follow suit, because we won't be taking it out of the basket every possession. That's the main issue in my humble opinion. I also don't think the "Moreyball" system means iso a player for 20 seconds. This whole "Moreyball" thing is overblown. Moreyball just favors the most efficient shots, points in the paint, 3s, and FTs. It has nothing to do with how you get those shots. That's the responsibility of the coaching staff and the players. The biggest culprit, or at least easiest to blame, is Harden, but they all have terrible movement on that end. The offense needs to get better, but if we can't stop anybody it is still a moot point.
Didn't realize Brewer signed for 3yr/$23mil. Terrible decision by Morey. Was any other team even looking to sign him?
Who did people think we were? We've never been that skilled. We have/had very few players with a variety of basketball skills. Most are just greyhounds.....our strength was not having back ups that sucked, at every position. It allowed us to deal with injuries better than most and to constantly run...and we tried really hard. We just stopped working hard on the court.
Should have listened to McHale and played harder. That's apparently how we won last year. Now that he's gone our lack of talent is exposed.
It's a good team. However, whether it will turn around depends on the leadership of its leader, Mr James Harden.
Yes...kings were one of them. It appears Corey didn't like our original offer, so he started talking with other teams, and he eventually started talking with Houston again, and accepted their second offer. Seems like he wanted to be here all along, but also had a certain number in mind he'd settle for. Reports indicated other team(s) were offering more.
Yes. Dwight Howard has a superstar name but has declined to being merely an above average center. He probably isn't producing to the level of his contract anymore. Corey Brewer was never anything special. He was slotted into an ideal role for his "talents" last year and got drastically overrated even though he was a mediocre player. Morey then drastically overpaid for him based on this overrating, rather than his true value. Now we are seeing the real Corey Brewer again. Patrick Beverly had already declined a lot before getting paid, and Morey stupidly paid him like he was performing at his peak based on the assumption that he would return to normal. However we had already known that Beverly was injury prone and had poor judgment. Sam Dekker and Montrazzle Herald - I'm not even going to go into this Terrence Jones is who we thought he was Jason Terry is also who we thought he was Harden is a one way player but isn't the problem here. The problem is that we put a weak team around him Ariza is not playing fantastically, but he's a good role player for the money Capela is a solid prospect Thornton is a good role player to have for the minimum for spot minutes but is not a good rotation guy Ty Lawson - LOL All in all, the Rockets just aren't very good. They are a collection of very heavily flawed to outright crappy young prospects (with the exception of Capela), way below average role players who previously over performed and are coming back down to earth, a "star" center who is no longer a star, and a SG who is good enough to be the #1 option but does not have the correct team around him to mask his flaws and magnify his strengths.
The Rockets had no cap space. It was a means of retaining assets. The options were S&T's (Longshots) or letting go both Brewer & KJ and use most of the MLE on Josh Smith instead. Brewer & KJ were seen as having the added benefit of being the better trade assets too? Anyhow, Brewer is like the grease that makes greased lightning. When things are clicking. He'll give winning teams the extra edge, but when they're not, he's not a game changer.
now that he's gone? we were 4-7 getting killed by 30 at home to winless crap teams before he was gone
