I've been a huge Elon Musk fan for a while now. I've decided that I'd like to own a Tesla.

I have 13 thousand dollars saved up and I make 17 per hour at my current job. I obviously can't afford it but I'm due for a raise to 20 per hour soon and plan on living in my father's building (which has a garage) for a few more years. (so rent free)

Is it even sustainable to pay off?

inb4mocking. I know it's stupid, but I'm willing to screw myself financially for this car. Is it even possible at the moment though if I make payments?

What state do you live in? It makes a big difference.

I would hope that no one would give you a loan for one. If you lease it, it would be like $1,100/month with like $10,000 down...not a good idea....

Maybe save money and wait until for the Model 3?

Is there any information out on the Model 3? Might as well look it up myself...

35k is doable though. Will it be comparable to the S?

Let me give you some advice I wish someone would have given me. If you are single and living rent free and managing to squirrel away quite a stash keep it going. Buy some property, a house, condo, etc. Don't buy a car. Or just plow it into an IRA. Don't blow it on a car.

Did I mention DON'T BLOW IT ON A CAR?

Eventually you will meet a chick who will require you to spend money and you will be amazed that even though you earn way more than you did you are now always broke.:p

    You live only once

Go for it. No point regretting later.

If needed borrow some $$$ from bigtexx - it's cheap change for him

Don't listen to this guy. You have a great plan, ask your twitter/facebook friends, they will surely agree. And never, ever forget to constantly visualize "how ****ing cool will I look!?!"

No matter what anybody else says, just remember: making large financial commitments as a teenager while living off of your parents is ALWAYS a great long-term investment strategy.

No, not at all. A 75k car is not going to be comparable to a 35k car.

Have you thought about what your plan is after this car? Drive it til it dies, or sell after a certain # of years? I've heard that resale value on pure electrics may be pretty bad since there may be a pretty large cost to replace the batteries once they start getting worn out, so you may want to research this a bit.

Not an issue for most of the folks who buy Teslas, but if you're going to mortgage your future for this car, should know what you're getting into :p
