Associated Press HOUSTON - The Astros optioned pitcher Wade Miller to Double-A Round Rock on Friday and called up catcher Mitch Meluskey from the Express. Miller, who is 4-1 with a 1.69 ERA in August, is expected to be recalled Monday to make a scheduled start at Los Angeles. Meluskey hit .300 with 14 home runs and 69 RBIs in 2000, when he finished fifth in voting for the NL Rookie of the Year. In the offseason, he was sent to Detroit in a six-player deal. The 29-year-old Meluskey missed the 2001 season due to an injured right shoulder, and began this season in the Oakland organization. He signed with Houston earlier this month. Meluskey hit .265 with one home run and six RBIs in 13 games with Round Rock. Also, the Astros sent infielder David Matranga to Triple-A New Orleans and sent left-handed pitcher Greg Miller from New Orleans to Round Rock.
From ESPN - "Also, the Astros have decided to slow down the rehab schedule for Roy Oswalt. The right-hander has been out since July 30th with a right groin strain. Oswalt was scheduled to throw a simulated game today, but now he'll only throw his third bullpen session. The Astros say the plans now are for Oswalt to throw the simulated game next Tuesday. Officials will then decide whether to send Oswalt on a minor league assignment before he comes off the disabled list." No sense in rushing things I guess. As long as he comes back healthy and stays that way.
because they wanted to call Mitch Melusky up. Miller isn't really going to the minors. He will start on Monday as planned. It's just something they had to do to call up Mitch.
And Miller still had a couple of options left, so why not use em. That way you don't use the options up on fringe players. DD
