Pistons, Williams' agent to meet this weekend Wednesday, February 7, 2001 AUBURN HILLS - Jerome Williams' agent, Lon Babby, will meet with a high-ranking Detroit Pistons official during the NBA's All-Star weekend, which begins Friday in Washington. One of the topics of discussion will be Williams' future with the Pistons. There have been rumors that Detroit is interested in trading Williams, who will become a free agent this summer. Brendan Suhr, Detroit's director of player personnel, said there are no deals in the works to trade Williams or any other Pistons. But that won't stop Pistons management from talking with other teams, some of whom have expressed interest in Williams. "We have told Jerome and his agent that if we were to make a trade, they would be involved in the process," said Suhr, who plans to meet with Babby in Washington. Regardless of where he plays, Williams said his approach will remain the same. "I take my job seriously," Williams said. "Whether I'm here, which is where I want to stay, or someplace else, I'm going to give 100 percent to the organization." ***JYD would be a perfect addition to the Rockets. Say goodbye to Cato if there is a chance JYD can be acquired. ------------------
Actually, Cato and Williams aren't close enough in salary even with Cato's BYC deal to make something like that happen. The closest we could come to Williams 2.8 million is Carlos Rogers at 2.2 million but even that wouldn't work because Williams is only worth about $2 million due to his BYC status. It would probably have to be a multi-player trade to make it happen. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible. [This message has been edited by Jeff (edited February 07, 2001).]
Actually, I think it might be possible. Detroit acquired a trade exception worth about 4 million bucks when they dumped Ceballos on Miami. But then we'd have to worry about keeping JYD, acquiring Webber, etc. I'm still holding out for Cato to Chicago, Walt and Miller and Los to Miami, Green/Ceballos/Majerle (Majerle waived: he's Pat's boy) to free cap space. But I'll take JYD, too. ------------------
I like him a lot but I dont know if we have the room unless we give up Kenny in the deal. I really like Mo and the way he has been playing, his rebounding average is going up slow but its getting there.I would really like Jerome to come off are bench as are NEW 6th man. If we make a serious run after Webber we just drop his but!!! ------------------ President of the why in the Hell isnt Langhi playing club!!!
didn't Rogers say he'd like to be in Detroit next season -- why wait? would acquiring JYD affect our Webber frontrunner status? ------------------
Trade Mo and Los for JYD. Seems sacrilegious in a way, and disrespectful of Mo, who has developed a rapport with this team that prides itself on loyalty...and it also seems a way to bust up team chemistry. But JYD can board, and play some D, and we need that big time. Mo and Los won't b**** about going home. Detroit can sign Mo to bigger $$$ when we steal Webber from them. You can get them off the books, too. Even if we get Webber, imagine those two guys on the front line (JYD can play spot minutes at the 3 and 5, C-Webb spot 5). I know it won't happen, but wouldn't it be nice. ------------------
oh, thanks. jerome williams graduated from magruder high school in montgomery county, MD, where my mother taught for awhile. he is/was a real good guy. and also, him and stevie are both D.C. area players, so there's that connection (+ wizard, too)... seems like a good fit all around. ------------------
I would love to get Jerome Williams. One of the most underrated players in the nba. He can be the rebounder Houston is looking for. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.
There's got to be a way to get Williams for los. It just makes too much sense. ------------------ Kenny Thomas had a foul called on him in the Western Conference Finals.
any chance we can get rid of Walt while where at it ------------------ CUT Tino These Heaves are just getting Ridiculous!
I was just doing a little fooling around on realgm, and Walt for Williams and Billy Owens would work, and Owens is a free agent at the end of the season. Also, Bskball.com says Detroit is interested in picking up a "sweet shooting 3" if you believe anything you read there. We might be able to convince the Pistons Walt is a sweet shooting 3. j ------------------
How did you guys like his hustle last night in limited time? I love his energy and he really takes advantage of the time he gets on the court. Here are his stats for the last 5 games: February 8 vs. Houston: 13 minutes 7 points 8 rebounds 2 steals 2-3 FGs 3-4 FTs February 6 vs. Denver: 28 minutes 8 points 12 rebounds 4 steals 2 assists 3-5 FGs 2-2 FTs February 3 vs. Cleveland: 25 minutes 2 points 13 rebounds 2 assists 1-7 FGs February 2 vs. Boston: 31 minutes 6 points 12 rebounds 1 assist 1 steal 2-8 FGs 2-3 FTs January 31 vs. New Jersey: 32 minutes 15 points 17 rebounds 2 steals 2 blocks 6-11 FGs 3-7 FTs ------------------
Unfortunately, I didn't see much of him because I was going back and forth between the game and "Friends", but I was impressed by his box score. j ------------------ Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!
JYD can play center, he has done it in the past. Isn't he also friends with Francis? ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
Please, please tell me you had a woman there forcing you to go back and forth between the game and Friends. ------------------ Behad Sergeant at Arms of the Clutch BBS
Why would you admit this on a Rockets' BBS? LOL. I have to say I did like the "We may be able to convince them Walt is a sweet-shooting 3" line though.
