why even send the police when you can send drones? Police officers do always have a risk of being fired upon. And how can we PREVENT homicides by gunfire by pre-scanning and compiling unconstitutional databases of likely shooters? let your imagination run wild for a second, and throw the Constitution out the window, tell me what can be accomplished with a similar amount of nuance as the whole terrorist issue.
Are you letting your imagination run wild as a deflection/coping mechanism? What did any of that rant have to do with suicide bombing being an accident?
You seemed to imply that governments and individuals were justified in having an overreaction of fear and could look beyond raw numbers of deaths to implement errant policy because the stats ChrisBosh cited were of situations without malice or intent ("accidents") as opposed to some incidents that involved plenty of malice and intent. So I brought up a situation that heavily involved malice and intent to gauge your response. Suicide bombings aren't accidents. Neither are homicides. Should the response of society be on the same order of magnitude, even if you are statistically much more likely to die from homicide by gun in America?
It doesn't matter whether it's an accident or not. It matters how much risk it is to American citizens.
Its funny how far more deaths in the US are caused by gun violence (most of which isn't accidental) yet Republicans aren't even willing to entertain ANY common-sense restrictions on guns. They will cry "2nd amendment!" and "the constitution"! But the second there is any kind of terrorist attack they will tear up the 1st (ban all Mosques), 4th (NSA spying on everything without warrants), 5th (targeted drone strikes on US citizens abroad), 6th (indefinite detention), and 8th Amendment (torture). I'm not suggesting you are a Republican or are against gun control - I don't want to steer this thread in that direction. I'm just saying that so many people are hypocrites when it comes to this - it amazes me....
Overreaction of fear? How many Parisians were murdered because they decided not to go in to work on the Monday following the attack? How many people were murdered because Belgian police patrolled the streets yesterday? Notice that these "overreactions" did not result in any deaths. And if you or any others wish to discuss gun violence, I suggest you start a different thread on that very topic.
While we don't see it this way, isnt' that exactly how many Muslims see the U.S. invasion of Iraq that killed 100's of thousands of Iraqis, Israelis military actions resulting in the deaths and displacement of 100's of thousands of Palestinians? We don't have to imagine the flip side. The West is handling it better now, but how long before a gov't doesn't handle it well? There's a lot of rising hate and anger - more now than in 2001 even. This isn't about which culture or society is more open and pluralistic. The west obviously is the one that claims to be more advanced of a civilization, so holding it to a high standard seems to be the obvious thing to do. I do think there is need for reform of religious institutions in Islamic countries. I am not arguing against that. I am arguing against letting unbridled fear control our judgments and choices.
How many people will die because of airstrikes and drone strikes? How long is the state of emergency going to be in France, exactly? Who were the 21 senators who signed an amendment for "complete control of the media"? What are the implications of the ugly law crafted during the Algerian Civil War, and what happened last time the law was invoked for a long period in the 60s? What will happen now that the EU has defaulted to closing its borders and violating its foundational principles over a fake passport? You are being very very selective about what the "overreactions" are. I wanted to see if your particular reaction was based on logic or emotion with the gun violence comparision, whether you evaluate risk on a probalistic or heuristic basis. It seems to be the latter. If you want to discuss gun violence, I happily suggest you start the thread. Wouldn't want to be muffling the discussion now, would you?
There is no death tally from shutting down the border. What is the point in comparing my chances of dying in a car accident to my chances of dying from a terrorist attack? I have to get into my car to drive to work or to drive to the grocery store. What beneficial purpose do terrorist acts serve? I do not think it is an appropriate comparison. Neither is Sweet Lou 4 2's typical post-a-graphic-with-no-source-or-other-information.
Spoiler Yeah...Islamophobia doesn't exist. To make this statement, and to anyone that agrees with this - is in itself Islamophobic. It demonstrates the degree that people want to deny that all the hate directed towards Muslims right now is anything more than just being politically incorrect. Then you have ATW chiming in agreement - is it any wonder that the guy who post 1,000 anti-Islam threads agrees that hate towards Muslims doesn't exist? So much for being on your ignore list! That lasted what, 3 days of posting screenshots of trying to prove you weren't' reading my posts and yet STILL replying? LOL.
There is one casualty: the European Union itself and the Schengen Agreement. You've also ignored my other queries, some of which do have death tolls involved (quite steep ones). If you did not think it is an appropriate comparison, I hope you appreciate me bringing something closer to the mark.
That's funny that you say in the name of Jesus, considering Muslims believe in Jesus and say he will come back during the apocalypse to fight the anti-Christ.
Islamophobia was invented by Islamists as a means to smear and silence critics of Islam, and that is its sole purpose.
So it was the Islamists that spray painted that stuff on the mosque? It was an Islamist that was talking to Trump about Muslims at the Q & A?
You call that Anti-Muslim hatred. Big difference between someone harassing Muslims and criticizing Islam.
I have far more fear of American Police Officers more than ISIS. Seriously. If the agenda of Terrorist is to induce terror . . . .well . . . QUESTION: Are we seriously saying that NOTHING was done by France that may have sparked this? http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/27/middleeast/syria-france-isis-bombing/ France launches its first airstrikes against ISIS in Syria By Ben Brumfield and Margot Haddad, CNN Updated 7:09 PM ET, Sun September 27, 2015 My question is. . . back in September France EXPANDS its Bombing Syria and ISIS (which it had been doing for nearly a year] Then ISIS Bombs France in November Why is ok for France to goto Syria and Bomb ISIS but ISIS Goes to France and bomb them back it is a Tragedy? Right, Wrong or Indifferent . .. .when go go blowing up other countries. . .don't be surprised when they want to blow up yours For every innocent Frenchmen that was killed There seems to be alot of innocent Syrians that are being killed.
