When u think about it, did Morey really do analytics or was he just following everybody else? I mean, when he got Dwight, was analytics the process in picking Howard? Or was he a free agent that everyone else tried to grab? Harden, a popular player in a finals team, some dubbed the big 3 at Okc, was that analytics? Was trying to get melo, was analytics? Or was he one of the hot free agents on the market? Hmmmm. Was trying to get bosh analytics? Or was it because he was a finals winner? Hmmm...

Seems like Morey goes for people who went to the finals. I.e. Howard, harden, bosh, ariza, or your typical superstar, I.e. Melo. Was that analytics?

These words were echoed by Barkley sometime ago. I guess Morey is just your typical run in the mill gm. Time to clean house, get er done les. In les we trust.

You writing this thread, was that analytics? Hmmm...

Seriously though..you're clueless, much like Barkley, about what analytics are and how they're applied.

Analytics aren't special formulas to specifically find stars.

When Morey kept marketing his analytics as if he knows something u don't know based on his "calculations," then it's like why did he go after players everybody else was going after? Kind of pointless to keep marketing your niche when u do what everyone else is doing. It's like telling everyone that u know a special formula to pick that next stock, and then u go ahead and but microsoft stock or something like that.

A thread about Barkley's point that doesn't actually state his point. Really?

I said it in the last three sentences. But in short, barkleys point is: morey's analytics is just stupid.

Would you like to take a guess at the number of teams in the NBA that have active, functioning analytics departments? Hint: It's not just Houston.

You can or rather could find unhidden gems ROLE PLAYERS that were underpreciated in FA based on analytics. However now every team except two use heavily analytics so it is impossible.
As for stars no. Stars are stars in analytics and without analytics.

Also the op doesn't know what analytics is. Much like Barkley. That's why noone will ever give him a chance to become a GM. Owners aren't brain dead.

You're thinking too deep OP. Morey was going after Howard and he decided to go to the Lakers. Melo, Anderson, Love, Bosh and LMA all fits the protypical stretch 4 that he wanted.

I suspect that Barkleys reason for hating Morey and his analytics is because Barkley can't get a job as a GM because most owners know how useful analytics are therefore they will not hire the turrible GM that he would be.

i think morey believes in pursuing the star players on max contracts because they would actually be worth a lot more than the max on a free market. he also believes in analytics. however analytics usually does not make a huge difference in evaluating star players because they are pretty much known quantities. so the two things morey is known for, analytics and pursuing stars, are mostly separate. that being said, james harden was absolutely not a known quantity. at the time we got james, morey valued him higher than any other suitor, particularly the thunder. the assets traded and the long term contract were considered expensive at the time. in hindsight it stands out as an amazing deal.

What about Harrell? Does Harrell look like the stretch 4 he wants?

    Lol.

People thought we overpaid for Harden, that we were crazy to go all in for Bosh, and that it was bad to replace Parsons with Ariza.

All of those were analytical moves that were criticized and now look obviously correct in hindsight
