Beat you by a minute, Batman. I'm excited about Clark, but I was just skimming that piece about Dean potentially having $200 million from 100,000 donors??? Wow. Is that possible?
What are the odds at 3 in the morning? The 200 million's the top possible amount from 100,000 -- the individual contribution limit's $2,000. He won't get that much but that's the top of what he could get from the contributors he's already signed up. The point there is that with a relatively low average donation of $77, he's got a base of known givers he can go back to again and again. And that's not even taking into account people who haven't given yet, especially with his new status in the race.
I'm surprised I could do much of anything that late last night... not because it was late, but because of several nights in a row without my usual minimum, sleep-wise. I follow it, now. Dean's using the Net in a savvy way that will be copied, no doubt, but Dean is really tapped into it. It's refreshing to get people who might not even ordinarily vote to get into the political process and contribute. I admire him for that a great deal. The Democratic Party needs to shake off the cobwebs and he's helping to do it. I could vote for Dean if Clark doesn't win the nomination... and I'd like to see a Clark/Dean ticket that would play to both of their strengths. Bush is ripe for defeat, in my opinion. What he truly is, and isn't, is finally sinking in to the average American. The Bush presidency has been and is an ongoing disaster for this country. Even the most ardent Green Party/Nadir supporters and moderate Republicans, who must be wondering what has happened to their party, must see that uniting around a good Democratic candidate and defeating George W. is critical for America. It's time to get serious about it and vote this guy out of office and back to Maine or wherever he chooses to enjoy retirement.
