But that was because of the assumed price tag, which Morey proved was much smaller. Thing is now, based both on CBA salary-matching rules and Lawson's plummeting value, you can't get equal value back. You'd have to make a 2 for 1. This is just a frustrated-fan idea. You don't trade Lawson right now, because he has no value.
It's not Lawson's fault that McFail or James refuses to let him run the team as a pg with excellent penetration skills.
Even when James isn't in he still defers to guys. He doesn't want to impose his will at all. Just another curious case of the 2015 RRockets

So the one who called the players only meeting is Lawson who is a new guy and had never had good leader characteristics. Instead of the established stars of the team like Harden and Dwight is Lawson! At least I hope something comes out of this.
i like it in the sense that Ty is stepping up during this time despite being a new piece to the team. Lets see how the team responds tomorrow. There's only so much left to do before something like a coaching change becomes a reality. Mchale possibly benching Lawson is another one of the last resort moves.
I remember Lin killed the Knicks when he played them the first few times as a rocket that first season. Go ahead...call me a lof...hooroo!!
If you're going to make over-the-top insults about other people's comments you should at least back it up with some facts. Ty Lawson is a borderline All-Star. His numbers, up to this season, have been consistent with that. So even if the poster was incorrect in identifying him as a borderline, your insult is really not conducive to productive discussion.
Negative. He's not a borderline all star, even in his best season. Point guards are extremely deep. I can easily name you 10 pgs that should make the game every year over him. Cp3, Westbrook, Conley, Lillard, Curry. Lillard or Conley are borderline all stars. Lillard is a far superior offensive player, Conley is a far superior defensive player. Lawsons defense is on par with Isaiah Thomas, one of the worst in the NBA. Then you have guys like Bledsoe, Holliday that you could make a case for either way vs Lawsons best season. Lowry, wall, Irving, Teague, rose. Rose and Teague are borderline all Stars. Lawson hasn't been driving to the hood for 2-3 seasons now.
Fine. He's been an above average starter. I'm not Lawson's biggest fan, mainly because of his defensive weaknesses. However, to your point, I think that neither Rose (these days) nor Teague are borderline All Stars, and Jrue's best seasons are worse than Lawson's best seasons. But, there are probably a dozen other PG's who are better, so overall your point is well taken. My main point is that calling people out as stupid without any further explanation is harmful to any discussion board and unnecessary.
It's just an unusually strong position overall. No knock on Lawson because he played really well a couple years back, but he was nowhere near the best at his position. What's holding him back is really defense. If he had elite defense with his best offensive years in Denver, he'd definitely be in the convo. Either way. Something happened to him a year or two ago. You see his driving stats and attempts at the rim drop off the map. I think those days might be over.
They might be over. But with respect to the larger conversation in this thread, trading him would net us nothing of value. You guys ever play fantasy basketball? Trading somebody at their nadir (which, hopefully, is where Lawson is at, as anything worse than this is almost unimaginable) would only ensure the progressive devaluation of your team.
McHale is not the best coach but Lawson is only averaging 8 pts, 5 ast, and 2 TO's per game and shooting only 27% from 3-pt line and 33% overall. Anyone who thinks he isn't part of the problem is delusional. Could things improve? yes, but this team will not get any better until he starts playing better and Harden is surrounded by role players that can shoot the freakin' ball. Brewer can't shoot and is streaky. Jones can't shoot and has a slow developing shot. Ariza is inconsistent but we need his defense. Actually he is descent when the floor is spread. Of course, everything seems to run better when the Rockets have a consistent low-post scoring threat. Right now that is non-existent. The bottom line is Lawson brings nothing to the team to make them better. He's never been a good defender and he's not much of a shooter. If Harden is going to run the point then the Rockets would be better off playing a guy off the ball that can shoot. That's not Lawson.
