Just wondering if most of you change your sigs regularly or not. Is it just me, or do the sigs that are four times longer than the average post get extremely ANNOYING to you too???!!!??? Be kind. Re-sign. (or remove the check in the "show sig" box every now and then)
Cool. I wasn't meaning to like make people feel +bad for sig. I guess my main beef is when people post ten replies in a single thread, and all ten have their sig--- (or their "book") ---on each one. Just you know, make your sig known at first, then "uncheck" the box, that's all. Anyway, it's just a suggestion that makes it easier to read through actual responses. Sig's are cool, if you see a new one. But seeing 40 lines of sig for every 15 of responses gets old sometimes. Sorry, I ranted on something a little. Yes, I'll have some bread and cheese with that.
I change mine every once in a while. Just whenever the muse strikes me. but I do try to keep it to 2 or 3 lines max. If the quote is long, I reduce the font to 1 to try to makeup for it. Remember that one guy that had a entire novel in his sig? Damn noobs.
That was the longest sig I've ever seen. He had a whole rap song, not a line, but the whole song! That sig could rival a MacB post! Funny, he started a thread in the GARM and his post was 2 sentences. The sig took up half the page. No one said anything about his thread, they just hammered him about his sig.
I change my signature often, sometimes 2-3 times in a day. Whatever I feel at the moment. here comes a new one now
I'll never change mine. It's a quote a close cousin of mine had stuck on his wall because he liked it, had a sense of humor and thought it summed up the state of the world. It's my way of keeping him around, since he's "not with us" any longer. He would have enjoyed this place. I don't think anyone will ever figure out which Pulitzer Prize winning novel it comes from.
My original signature was something about not being a homer, and R2K started teasing me too much so I broke down and changed it. I forgot what I changed it too but shortly thereafter, i adopted a sig about muslims/hugs/dynamite that apparently offended a poster one day (even though I had it for about 3 mos). DaDa, being the lovable a-hole that he is, decided to steal it and currently has my old sig as his new sig. I adopted a DaDa "tutu" quote and recently changed it to a YoYaoism. I need a new sig since YoYaoisms are becoming old. Any ideas?
Now that I've checked further, it seems this quote was in several books by Robert Heinlein. Apparantly, he was just as fond of it as you are, Deckard.
I wish I had an eye for picking out a great quote as a signature... I just shortened mine. Thank you signature police.
At first, I had a sig about my username, explaining it. Then it got old, so I changed it to Trog Dor, The Burninator. But then that got old, so I uh...changed it to nothing. I'm not very good at signatures either, and I'm usually pretty late on the YoYao quotes. I just leave it blank for now. May put something there when I feel like it...like 19-10 so no one will have to throw it in my face in huge bold font that is made bold and is in italics. I don't know. I just have to consider my options, however few they may be.
I meant to reply earlier, Mrs. JB. That quote was used by Robert Heinlein, who I started reading when I was about 10 and kept joining the Science Fiction Book Club to the constant surprise of my parents, in "The Cat Who Walked through Walls", if I remember correctly. That's not where I first heard/read it, however. It was from a Pulitzer Prize winning novel that was published in the '50's. I guess that author liked it to. I'm not saying where it's from. Someone will have to figure it out if they want to make the effort.
It would've taken forever for me without the '50s Pulitzer hint. But, thanks to that, I can say it's also from Herman Wouk's The Caine Mutiny. (At least if the Internet is to be believed; I don't have a copy of it on hand to check.) --Kimble, your fact-checking cuz (Back on topic: My .sig stays for 4-6 months or so. I actually changed my Slashdot .sig earlier today because they decided to strip out the accented characters -- "¿Qué pasa, señorita? ¡I am el fugitivo!" loses its charm without them, IMHO.)
