I woke up this morning to a nasty stench in the house. After getting dressd for work and getting everyone on their way to work and school, I followed my nose to the source of that horrible "scent". It was an ungodly aroma coming out of our garage freezer. I cracked it a bit and OMG I nearly barfed on the spot. The freezer was off and the south texas heat had done a great job of fermenting what was in there. Before cleaning it out, I figured out that the GFI switch has been thrown for awhile. I had fish and beef in that freezer and as soon as it all defrosted, the blood all puddled in the bottom of the freezer along with all the waffles and buns. After throwing all the soft, squishy fish and meat into a plastic lawn bag, I had the pleasure of laddling out the rotten blood...I started thinking about just taking the day off and getting into fetal position in some corner of my room, but I new that smell would still be in the house.
after washing up and putting on a TON of cologne, here I am at work...

So tell me...how did your day start?

I woke up, took a shower, found some semi clean clothes and put them on. I didn't read my chapters for government class and it looks like im not doing that right now so... shame on me. Mom gave me her pulse card to get lunch on. Good so far.

Can you still smell that rotten meat right now while you're at work? I always think I smell stuff from earlier when it's just me being paranoid.

Let's just say that I was reading your reply, I was using some Purell hand sanitizer...the "no water needed" kind.

Yesterday I was running at memorial park and their was a dead racoon in the ditch in front of the entrance to the golf course. That's always nice.

I went running early this morning and I saw two skunks in a neighbor's driveway. I think that I startled them but I was far enough away so that they didn't take any action.

I'm such a jerk for saying this.....but never put your freezer on a GFI.

Of course, it's a bit late for that advice. Didn't you just recently buy a house? If so, they should have a non-GFI protected outlet in your garage just for that purporse.

Anyway....sorry for the loss. Look on the bright side: if you're freezer wasn't a frost free, now you don't have to defrost it.

It wasn't on the actual GFI, but on a GFI circuit. It looked like a regular plug. I have to find that non GFI plug .

Ground Fault Interrupt. They are those outlets with the breaker switch built into them and they are usually put around wet areas so that you don't electricute yourself.

My puppy, Jake, this morning threw up on me, but he is okay now. He is at that stage where he likes to put about anything in his mouth and chew and I have a feeling that he has been eating grass. Other than that, it has been like any other day.

Yep....and everything "downstream" from the GFI is also GFI protected, so if the GFI trips, then the rest of the outlets (that are wired off of it) go dead too.

A lot of builders will turn the outlets upside down or sideways to show that they're different than the GFI circuits. You might look for an outlet that is set differently than the others.

One day on the way into work, I notice a little smell, but I ignore it. On the way home that afternoon, the stench is unbearable I drive two blocks and stop the car. I half expected to find some kind of severed head when I opened the trunk. Alas, it was just a 10 lb bag of deboned chicken I had failed to remove from the previous day's trip to Sam's. Ditched it in a nearby dumpster, shooed the flies out of the trunk, went home and spent several days cleaning the trunk, carpets, and everything else the chicken came in contact with. Took a few weeks for the car to get back to normal (or for me to get used to the smell).

I once had a baby bird die on my hood near where the air comes in the these small vents at the top of the hood(it was an older model Volvo). Every time I ran the a/c or air the smell would pound me in the face. I could not figure out where that smell was coming from and it was difficult to see this little bird where it was.

That was gross. Reminded me of the car smell Jerry couldn't get rid of on Seinfeld.

My ex, ex girlfriend (the one who shared a name with Major's former moniker) was a terrible slob when it came to her car. We normally drove mine it was so bad. Well, we got into her car (actually, it was her sister's car, who was just as bad as her, but she was out of the country) one day and the smell was downright disgusting. Finally, we found the source of the odor. Yeah, she had eaten half an egg roll and just threw the other half on the floor. That had been a week ago. In July. In Texas.

She's lucky she was hot and had cool parents.

    :D

I had a similar experience with our freezer. Finially used Frabreeze to kill the smell and it worked well.
