    you're probably correct.

However, I cringe every time I hear about parents letting a 6yr old child decide to change their gender. Wait and let the kid make the decision when they're old enough to truly understand what they're doing. At least wait until they're in their late teens to make that kind of life-altering decision.

Makes me think of the lady who was a tomboy, dressed like a boy, was in to boy toys, wanted to be a boy..and grew up to be a heterosexual woman. Although she identified with boys at a young age, when she grew older and her sexual feelings came, she no longer wanted to be a boy.

I'm not against someone changing their gender, but I am against it happening before the kid even truly understands whats going on.

I wouldn't wait, as there's actually no good age to change genders, and as a parent you probably have to get a shrink to sniff out any bigger emotional issues and then steer into the skid.

Can't pick out their own clothes for school yet . . . . but yea let them make a life altering lifetime decision

This is the EXTREME of parents trying to be friends rather than parents.

The parents of that child should have their head examined.

Yeah because cutting one's hair short and calling someone a boy instead of a girl is life-altering.

    For Halloween? No.

For how you identify for life? Yes.

The six year old probably doesn't understand what he/she is doing

6 is probably too young, but there is a time where the kid has to make a decision. Are they just going through a phase or is this something deeper?

The risk of waiting too long is there is a point when it gets too late. There have been cases of suicide as the person that feels they are trapped in the wrong body is forced to wait until they are a full grown adult to make the transition and by then it's too late. Once you have fully grown through puberty there will always be something leftover. But there is a good age for it and it's before they start producing gender specific hormones.

But again the risk of it being too early is that the kid may just be going through a phase.

Honestly I think the parents are in the right here. Let the kid go hard through it. If it's a phase they will tire of it and if it isn't...then it isn't.

The problem isn't the hair cut.

How is it multiple posters in this thread are saying this is a "lifelong decision"? This is a frikking six year old. He/she/it could change his/her mind two more times before the year is out. Who gives a *****.

When you say this child is making a lifelong decision at the age of six, you're just projecting yourself into their position, or that of the parents.

then what is the problem? Because the hair is the only thing that's really changing.
