So the naysayers have been proven 100% correct and you still want him signed? With guys like PJ3, the problem is NOT the system, it's the PLAYER himself. Drop the excuses. The last place PJ3 should be is on a championship contender. He needs to go to a scrub team with no expectations where he might get minutes to find himself. Coming to a team where there is pressure, intensity and every game counts won't work for him. If I had a nickel every time someone posted, "In the right system..." Complete baloney. One of the most tired phrases in our forum. The Rockets 15th player should be someone who appreciates being in the NBA, will leave it all on the practice floor and earn the respect of his coach and teammates. PJ3 was a flaming failure on both counts at OKC.
In the right system is overused, but fringe players typically need to be in the right system to be worthy of any minutes. I don't see how the Rockets are the right system for Perry Jones.
Some fringe players just aren't worth a dime in any system, like PJ3. Niche players that actually bring a little something to the table need to be in the right system.
Haymitch, AKA The Oracle of Clutchfans, knew the truth of PJ3 back in 2012. Ignore him at your own peril. Spoiler Spoiler Although... to be fair, I can be shat on for repeatedly suggesting we draft Royce White in 2012. Oracle of Clutchfans, my ass!
Jopatmcaholic and his scrub heros like PJ3 and Vassilis Spanoulis always need the right system, except that it's just that that system is know as the Korean Basketball League.
FWIW ... JSmoove was also cut before becoming a key contributor to our playoff run last season Not really comparing PJ3 to Josh in terms of career-to-date ... Just that we've already seen first-hand how another lotto team's (super-athletic, poor-shooting, under-achieving lefty tweener Forward) trash can become the Rockets' treasure
Yeah but Josh Smith was already a proven veteran in the league. The problems he had in Detroit were about fit. Rockets felt he could help their team because the system was much more suitable to accentuate his strengths. I mean, Josh Smith was a borderline all-star player for years and made the all-defensive team just a few seasons before. That's much different from someone who's only been in the league for 3 years and has been the last guy off the bench since he got into the league. Perry Jones hasn't accomplished anything of note in the NBA.
Difference is (besides the lefty righty deal), one of those guys had actually established himself as a fairly decent role player on a borderline playoff team, the other.... not so much.
Sam Dalembert and Nick Johnson also waived and probably available. Lots of very accomplished players who could certainly contribute to us immediately on waiver.
Even worse!! A team with more playing time to offer than the Rockets/Thunder and with a much bigger need to develop young players on the rise just waived him. We're talking about two well run organizations. The Thunder traded him and the Celtics waived him. We're aiming for a championship and we need depth at PF. How does it make any sense?
Perry Jones...the next Anthony Randolph! Will be collecting checks on 'Potential' that will never be reached.
I didn't say I wanted to sign him. I said I'd be okay with signing him to a minimum deal. I wouldn't be against it. But I would also be okay if we don't sign him either. To repeat, I've never been a fan. Check my record. For the record, Sam Phisher, I called PJ3 a bust, over and over.
