I heard Kobe and Payton may be out too...I think Steve has a good chance...at least I think he deserves it.

Payton will play according to a Seattle newspaper this morning. I hate to say it, but the Rockets don't get a lot of press, and because of that I think Shaq's spot will go to Dirk Nowitzki. People out of Dallas have complained SOOO much about Dirk being left out that I have a bad feeling the first spot will go to him. I think if 2 of the 3 are out, Steve is in. But 1 is kind of doubtful. If Kobe and Shaq both are out, Steve is in. If just Shaq is out, I have my doubts, even though Steve undeniably deserves it.

Who makes the call... the coach? Didn't they have like a panel of coaches picking the reserves before?

I dont thin dallas should have two, but that is just my opinion
Shaws spot will go to Dirk anyways cause they will probably want to replace a big man with a big man.
Of course, Steve has been outrebounding most players in this league of late anyway.
But if Japan doesnt play then Steve is in.

Just like in the joke of a case that is the Eastern conference all stars; Mourning and Hill will be replaced by players that David Stern chooses. So if Kobe and Shaq are gone then DS chooses.

DAMN how unlucky could we be.

Hell, even if Steve does get it, who's to say he'll play anyway? He's skipping the dunk contest as it is, so how could he justify playing in the All-Star game? Regardless, it would be an honor, but if he says his ankle is still bothering him, then he shouldn't play.

Jonathon Feigan said that Steve was only skipping the dunk contest because it occurred the same day as the rookie game he is set to play in. Feigan did say that if he made the all star game he thought Steve would participate in the dunk contest so that is a mute point.
Lets not forget that Stern called Steve into his office to tell him he wanted to market him as the next big star of the NBA. That can't hurt his chances any I don't think.

Hey--if David Stern chooses the replacement, and it comes down to either Steve or Nowitzki, do you think possibly Stern would side with Steve in light of the recent "run-ins" with Cuban? That would be one way Stern could smack Cuban across the face and totally get away with it. [IMG]

    Just a thought...

Word is that Dallas Dirk will get the All-Star nod. It's well deserved, but like many of you, I'd like to see Steve get to play, but there's only 12 slots.

Regardless of Hakeem's comments/attitude/play, he should be the logical choice to replace Shaq. This is possibly his last year and what better way to honor the preeminent center of the 80s and 90s then by selecting him to play in this year's game.
