Everyone will have cap space, and a lot of it. OK, lotsa teams with lotsa cap space this summer.

Sign DMo and trade for what is needed. (Or there's always the 2nd Round).

Pretty much this. D-Mo's agent is probably telling him to wait it out, and the Rockets almost certainly (like 99.9% certainly) want to chase a max free agent this Summer. You'd have to come up with a pretty damn good bargain contract to get the Rockets to accept. They (D-Mo & his agent) have too much to gain next Summer to give a bargain unless they think he's got huge amount of risk with his health... which in that case make the Rockets wonder if they want him back at any cost next year.

    Soo... /Thread.

I'd sign him to that deal, maybe a bit more, with a player option in the 4th year. If he's healthy, he'll cash in big in year 4 with the Rockets and, as you said, be very tradable in the interim.

Do you mean team option, Deck?

Nope. It would be very unMorey like to offer one, but if he (Morey) sees Donut's future as healthy, the "discount" for 3 seasons would be very attractive.

Morey loves team options. Morey loves team options with last year being un-guaranteed. Morey hates player options.

4 year for $60M seems to be a good deal for the rockets, then the rockets could lose him if some teams make a max offer next year.

Let Dmo hit RFA - You have the right to match and or exceed the cap in doing so.

Use existing cap space to make the team better .... who doesn't matter in this discussion.

Match any deal DMo gets in RFA ... doesn't matter if its $1 or $100m since you are already at or over the cap .... just a matter of how much Les is willing to pony up.

Extending him now isn't best for either party. DMo would have to take less and the Team clogs up unnecessary cap space unless that extension is for Less than his QO which just isn't going to happen.

We both agreed earlier in the offseason that this was D-Mo's make-or-break year. Now that we know just how little contact work he's been able to put in over the summer, are you still confident that he's poised for a breakout this season?

I'm not. And if last year is more or less his ceiling, he ain't outperforming 4/50MM. That's an overpay under the current cap, and arguably slightly above market value with the cap going up.

I would think so, his game was never really dependent on athleticism rather it is based primarily on footwork, post moves, and shooting. I don't expect any of those things to drastically fall off but maybe his touch at the rim could be rusty to start the season.

That said, this thread is pointless because I doubt he'd even consider a contract extension right now. He'll make a lot more waiting a year and the risk isn't that great.

Some team will give him the max and make him the #1 option.

Doesn't matter with the right to match and exceed the cap ...

I could see keeping one of DMo or TJones and the other moved as part of an S&T ... its not the end of the world for them to reach RFA.

I wouldn't extend DMo (health issues) or Jones (health issues & consistency). I also believe that we'll only keep one of them next season. If we extend one, the other could become a chemistry issue.

That's not entirely true. Many players have valued security over the maximum future financial opportunity a lot of times, including now with the cap rise. Doesn't matter if their agent tells them otherwise it's them who make the decisions.
Doesn't mean that the current injury would have to be big for him to accept.

But it depends on the personality and the background of the player ofc.

His compatriot Valanciunas took a pretty big discount for security only this summer.
S+T are crap with the cba and esp with the cap rise there's no incentive for a team to trade any assets to get a rfa. When there is 1.07 billion to be spent next summer a lot of teams wont' have a problem seeing how far Morrey can go esp since he will be on an extremely tight spot with Durant Dwight and his two RFA.
Don't expect any s+t next summer that will return any significant asset if any.

In the past decades of being a rockets fan, I don't think there's ever been a year where the media picked them for anything.

Maybe the old and semi-retired trio years, but other than that they get no respect.

    No respect given.
