Assuming he's here, what is his role this year? Cat can score. We want him to score "in the flow of the offense". What does that mean? Where do you want Cat's shots to come from? What's a good way to use his abilities.

I've got a few ideas, with plus and minus for each.

    1) Cat brings the ball up, finds Yao, moves, gets it back
    2) Cat uses a screen to pop
    3) Cat runs the P&R with Taylor or Yao
    4) Cat gets third pass on round the horn for 3
    5) Cat gets a seam as Yao backs up, Steve screen, drive or kick back to Yao
    6) Cat sets screen for Steve
    7) Cat on the break, lead or trailer? I think lead.
    8) Cat cuts middle, decoys Yao or Taylor drifting pop shot from outside
    9) Cat oop
    10) dribble dribble

See if you can get more that involve the teammates. I think Cat will serve us best bringing the ball up quick, preferably on a quick release with Steve passing to him up the court, and then operating in tandem with a teammate. He gets an advantage and spreads the defense.

Can he operate with Eggie in there ? Can he work with what we have at three? We don't want those weaknesses to breed dribble dribble jacking.

Guy has skills, if his head is on. Give me some sets.

I've seen pick and rolls with Cat and Yao and its a horrible sight. There are times where Yao is completely open after the pick. And it's not that hard to throw him a pass with him being 7'6 and all. Cat refuses to toss Yao the ball.

Even on a pick and roll where the guard just uses a pick to get the separation of his defender, you should throw it down to the big man cause there is a bigger chance he could score (especially Yao) and also the bigger chance that he could get fouled and score.

Hate to say it, but Malone and Stockton did this pretty well and I think we should incoporate this in our scheme.

I've seen that senario play out countless times this past season. I even started a thread about it during the season. :D

Let's hope JVG takes care of that ASAP.

Cat is already very good at #10. :)

Generally, I think when we talk about "in the flow of the offense" it means scoring in the framework of a designed play or in the rythym of a team's movement.

The Cat often has been guilty of taking shots not in the flow of the offense, though he's improved dramatically from 2 seasons ago. Examples... when he breaks off a play to go one on one against his man, leaving his teammates standing around. Even if he scores, it may throw off the rythym of the team because no else touches the ball. It may affect them on possessions down the line. Another example is when he takes a quick shot when his teammates aren't in position to go for a rebound.

Cat is like Nick Van Exel... he's a deadly scorer when the ball starts in his hands. Dribble dribble pull up, dribble dribble drive... He's very talented and a quality starting SG, but he is not as effective coming off screens and spotting up as he is creating havoc himself. Compare his game to Ray Allen's or Allen Houston's game.

People always say that he'd be better as the 6th man coming off the bench. Second units have a tougher time scoring on set plays because the players are simply not as talented as the first units. The PGs don't do as good a job running the team, getting the ball to players in a position where they can score. Moochie was HORRIBLE at it last year. Cat can create his own shot at will and his ability to do so is a valuable asset when he is surrounded by players who can't create shots for him. When a team's second units are in, teams tend to worry more about scoring as opposed to "scoring in the flow."

What kind of shots would Cat like?

    Tequila?
    Jello?
    Brandy?
    Whiskey?

    ;)

I agree on the P&R. It should be money, if only Cat would toss it back. He might even get it right back on a give and go, Yao/Moochie style. It just has to go to the post first. Just a little adjustment.

As a Cat hata, I have to admit, dude could be really effective, if only he would give the ball up, or even use a screen. I'm trying the high road, until I see him jack a 3 with 3 defenders on the break again.

Can a Cat change it's spots? What's Jeff got in mind?

Man, we don't need to give Cat more shots... we need to reign him in.

Give half his shots to Yao is more like it.

Why would make cat do all these things, when they're not his forte?

Why don't we get someone who DOES do this stuff betetr than Cat?

If you ask me, everything you put on that list...Pike can do better than Mobley, except dribbling.

Pasox, this is the perfect example of Cat not taking a shot "in the flow of the offense.";)
