Yepp... this team is full good ol boys with a humble GM. Not so dependent of just 1 player so called star, specially when he is an arrogant, reckless, womanizer. Or a dictator GM that does unprovoked attacks worse than Putin.
The Expos traded Casey Candaele on July 23, 1988, to the Houston Astros in exchange for catcher Mark Bailey. I was eight years old and Candaele for some reason was the gateway to my Astros fascination. I collected baseball cards and never wanted to give up my Candale cards. Playing baseball with my childhood friends I always shouted that I wanted to be Candaele. Of course, new heroes came along and I began to worship those young players as well. Biggio coming in as a rookie the same year as Candaele. 1991 Bagwell made his debut. I was loyal to this team! There was something great about Ken Caminti (RIP), Cedeno, Gonzo!, Finley and hell even Shane Reynolds. Point is that this season the Astros brought me back to those days. Yes they lost the series to the Royals but dammit if I am NOT going to watch with more attention and awe next season. They beat the Evil Empire and took the KC Royals to the final game. Not bad for such a YOUNG team. This team makes me feel that the phrase of "Wait until next season!" doesn't feel as empty when one expounds it. They can do it and I feel very confident about it. Much credit to the Royals because they kicked our ass the last two games. This series loss does not feel like an end however, feels more like we lost a battle...and we are waiting for next round (next year) when Daniel LaRusso crane kicks the **** out of Johnny (all our AL and eventual NL foe) into oblivion. Be proud and optimistic Astros fans...our day is coming.
Even all the way up here in Montana, I watched the Astros from afar (mostly in the paper) every chance I got. Since the Mariners are the "home" team up here, I got to catch them often enough to stay current with them and when you add in how often they were on MLB.tv, ESPN, and FoxSports I probably caught about 25 games this year. I've been a fan of the team since the mid-eighties and this year was the most fun I've had with them other than the 2005 season. And I'm super excited for their future. What a tremendous young nucleus this team has and I sense a closeness among the team that will bring them back hungry and ready in 2016. Luhnow seems to be pulling all the right strings and his job remains a big one to find us more bullpen help, improving at 1st base (and maybe 3rd and Catcher) and if possible 1 more starter. Can't wait to see the team in April and I WILL get MLB At Bat next year.
The season was an unqualified success. We've identified foundation pieces, and we have also identified our need. Clear blue skies moving forward. Luhnow has done a tremendous job building a great foundation, now we need to see how good he is at building a contender. This will be his first off season with that mindset.
Thanks for giving me an enjoyable summer. I attended 22 games and seemed to always leave feelin good!
Thank you Astros!!! 1st time my family got into the team and watched the games with me. I feel like this team has more potential than killer B's. I don't know what it is but maybe the youth and the power we have now. I feel like they always have a chance to win the game even though we are down going into the 9th. Can't wait for next season.
Always hurts to get eliminated, but I view this as a learning experience for the young guys. Having postseason experience so early in their careers will pay dividends down the road. Remember Hakeem's quote after the Game 7 loss to Seattle in 93? "We go from here." And that they did. Hopefully the Astros will too.
Thanks Astros it was a pleasure catching illegal streams to watch you, to catch you at games here in Arlington,TX , and to follow your scores via the MLB app. Wish Verizon here in DFW gets ROOT soon!
I was upset they couldn't get the win but it was a heck of a fun season and it's good to have baseball back in Houston.
Great season and these guys are arriving ahead of schedule. Like others have said, getting this far this year will pay dividends going forward. Can not wait to see more of the young guns come up. This season brought me back to baseball. Now I just have to get used to following the AL. It has been very difficult.
