I thought we had signed him to a guaranteed contract?

Must be a big man. I was surprised by the big guy he could get rebounds, he's like that overweight player from the Clippers in the mid 90s who was quite the passer, scorer and could still run as well. Would have to see more, but I lean towards Tyler. McHale said the big fella needs to lose weight, so I'm not sure they would take a chance on him losing that. He might have to do that first, then they will keep an eye out for him next camp.

I was just watching Chris walker highlights and he looks like the ****ing truth...

His style of play I feel like would fit nicely with KJ/Walker/Capela coming off the bench. The dude is 6-10 but can dribble and run the floor like a SG. He looks ridiculously athletic and him and Capela could clog those lanes and run a break for a alley or dunk

As the 15th member of the team, I would always choose the kid that can jump the highest and run the fastest.

Good thread. I think all of these guys have the tools to make it. It will depend on how much they're willing to work.

I can see one of them getting a 10 day contract so we can field 12 on opening day, but after that I imagine they'd be dropped or sent to RGV.

When there was another thread mentioned Jones is looking for 10+Million per year, i would say trade him and give a chance to one of these young bigs. They can do similar things with 1/10 of Jones' salary.

It definitely will be, which has me confused on why we didn't sign a vet big man.

Jeremy Tyler was my horse before the Mavs game. But shockingly, Joshua Smith looked way better out there. Smith was getting crazy boards, and putting it back. Tyler looked like a chicken with the head cut off, and had a really crappy TO. The screens he set didn't look all that great either.

Walker had a "welcome to the NBA rook" TO with carrying the ball. He had that 1 impressive block.

Back to Smith, I was shocked at how well he ran and didn't tire out. If he is just one of those big body dudes that can carry that weight & run with it without tiring out....then hell man...it certainly ain't pretty, but I don't care as long as it is effective. Some of those 50/50 strength-battle contested offensive boards he got were like "wow." Hands like a bear trap with velcro.

    Good post.

I agree with you that out of the three, Smith impressed me the most. Obvious big body that might give us some minutes at the 5 in an emergency situation.

At the center position, we have only D12 and Capela. Jones cannot play the 5 and D-Mo should not be used in a position that requires extreme physical contact as he recovers from back surgery. In short, we are thin at center. IMO, Smith is here to be that 3rd center, just in case.

Trade J. Smith to the Texans

I would trade J. Smith to the Texans, who needs another OG, for a future draft pick.

Send them down to the D-League and let them fight it out for the last position.

I'd guess none of them. Or, if we take one, he's cut by January 10.

This is so reflective of my take I feel I could have posted it myself. Agree completely.

I didn't think Tyler looked bad for his first preseason game with the team. But I completely echo your assessment of Smith. He has incredibly good control given his size and I can see him being special if he puts in the work.

I'd sign Tyler but I'd stash Joshua in the D-League and call him up every time there's an injury to a big.

    Nice post.

Didn't Walker ask to be subbed in for cause he tired out?

I thought I recalled Bill commenting on how you can do that as a rookie looking for a roster spot.

I'm pretty sure it was him... and if Joshua Smith outlasted him at 350, the way he looked that night (play wise) I'll take him any day over one highlight block and dunk Walker.

Ya but walker and mchale were walking off the court together smiling and laughing together so it didn't seem like mchale was writing him off or anything like that

I'll go with Walker. He got a good feel for the game, just need to work on his conditioning though. Had to get called out with one min left because he was breathing heavy.

I was for Tyler before, but he has by far the most experience and despite favorable physical ability still seems lost.

So Big guy Josh might be helpful come playoff if he could lose say 40 lbs. Walker may have the most physical potential but is a project who could bust.
I think we might not need such a project, but realistically both could just be trading chips if they develop well in the D-League.

I liked Walker's potential, but that's all he is at this point.

Don't see any of these guys making the roster. Several guys are going to get cut over the next few weeks that we may be interested in. Watch the waiver wire....
