"Carlsbad officials said they are looking “forward to bringing this lawsuit before the proper judicial authorities as soon as possible.” “We are prepared to provide a complete and detailed account of the facts of this incident in a courtroom, not in the media,” a statement provided to local reports." Makes it sound like there is more to the story.
Their side of the story. What justification is there for multiple cops directly striking the woman head as if it's a punching bag while she was physically pin down by the cop. If not for the cell phone video, the woman would be prosecuted and these cops would never be punished for abuse (and still may never be). That's the conflict of interest between DA and Police we are all living under. How many cases never surface and the victim was further victimized by the system? We won't ever know because there is no oversight.
If this woman would have worn her seatbelt this wouldn't have happened. This is what happens when you break the law.
Just like in grade school if one ******* kid caused trouble the entire class got into trouble, starting fining the entire department when **** like this happens. Watch as they start to police themselves and root out the assholes. Right now it's the opposite and that causes systematic cover-ups under the guise of brotherhood, it "could" be me facade.
It never actually said that she wasn't wearing it...only that this was the justification used to pull her over.
I swear to god, some people (like the "person" you were responding to) worship law and order so much they've forgotten what the point of those laws were purportedly supposed to be -- namely, the preservation of individual liberty. Once laws, police, jails and government starts getting in the way of that instead of facilitating it then changes need to be made, including radical change if nothing else works (which, because of how controlled by financial interests our democracy is, nothing else is indeed working). Incidents like this have made me ready for radical change personally.
Ironically in a country where union strength has been decimated, police unions continue to exert quite a bit of control over personnel decisions in situations like this. Police unions are a throwback to another era in this country.
Baümer was being sarcastic. I replied to that free thread without seeing this one... The problem is more systemic than firing bad apples or tearing down the thin blue line. The Wire isn't just a show. It's a documentary.
What if the cop is actually in a threesome with the rich soccer mom and the trailer trash hot 18 year old video taping the beating, and all of this was just a set up to get paid, and they will all run off together with the money. The other cop then thinks something is up. So he investigates. He approaches the rich soccer mom for questioning, who then facing that she has been found out, tries to kill the cop, but the cop kills her in self defense. It is then revealed the two cops have been working a scam together on the soccer mom and the hot 18 year old. They all get on their yacht together, and one cop then throws the other cop overboard, and the cop drowns. The arresting cop and the hot 18 year old are now left together on the boat drinking wine together, but the hot trailer trash 18 year old poisoned the wine and kills the cop, throws him overboard, leaving her on the yaught all alone with the settlement money.
Sometimes police force is excessive but even in a civilized society police brutality is sometimes necessary to instill fear and respect from the citizenry. Otherwise, if no one feared the law- crime would run rampant. Just the other day a police officer pulled me over for driving without license plates. Instead of getting myself shot or arrested I kindly told the officer that I think the license plates were stolen so I had no idea what to do. He directed me to the local DMV and I was back on the road in less than 10 minutes without a brain contusion or similar injury.
Sounds like you favor a submissive society, not a lawful one. Police brutality is not needed for citizen to follow the law. A system of fair law and accountability is what is needed for citizen to follow the law. You know who has no fear of the law? Cops. The current system does not hold them accountable and those like you support this status.
Police brutality instills the EXACT opposite of 'fear'. It instills a lack of respect for LE which is merited. Honestly, I have no idea what your anecdotal story's intent was? If you are driving without license plates, of course you should be pulled over. Who is saying otherwise?
