Just cause I'm bored let's have a little fun and get everyone's opinion. Looking back at the 2001 draft, who got the better of the draft night deal between the ROX and NJ? That would be the deal in which we recieved the rights to Eddie Griffin, and NJ got the rights to Jason Collins, Brandon Armstrong, and most importantly Richard Jefferson. Just throwing this out to change subjects a little.

The Rockets raped themselves in 2001. 3 mid-first round draft picks should have a higher value than the #8 pick. That was the year they had the biggest chance to improve the team through the draft outside of '02 and '84...and '83 I guess.

I'm a big fan of EG and I always have been, but there was a lot more room for improvement there than just adding him.

so this isn't changing the subject,
i do not know if we did the right thing, i do not know how good eddie will be in a couple of years

But the premise to this thread is a bit more intriguing than most "New Jersey Buttf*cked Us" discussions, plus we can see the mass's opinion through the poll.

I was thrilled when Eddie was accuired. After the 7 spot there is really nothing there that is any better than Eddie except maybe Parker and a bunch of teams passed on him. I guess the Rockets should have targeted an Eddie Curry or a Paul Gasol, there wasnt really anything to get excited about in the draft ,3 number 1's will usually bring you a star and they thought they had one and who knows they still might. Give Eddie a lil more time

Ummmmmmm, this thread has been done like a thousand times. Well now a thousand and one times...

If we would have kept that pick, we would have picked up Troy Murphy (a much better player than RJ) and not RJ. The Rockets just weren't impressed with RJ's dunking. That's all he is, dunking. When he tried to create his own shot in the playoffs, he stunk (see Finals vs. Spurs.)

Yes Griffin sucks, but he is still young. He has a nack for blocking shots, and he has range out to the 3-point line.

Not to mention that if we would have kept the three picks, we wouldn't have been able to pick up Yao.

RJ is simply better cuz with kidd passing skills he makes the whole team better... when stephon was there... the team sucked.. although stephon scored a lot he never made his team better... well i dont know what was their roster at that time so im not going to talk no more trash about stephon.... but kidd.... he has made mostly every player in that team better... RJ sux... lets see how he does without kidd in a couple of years... I truly dont understand how he got to be in the USA team... I think they should of picked up Shareef instead of Jefferson... Jefferson is no superstar... and im not saying the USA team is full of superstars although most of them are

How could anyone not vote NJ on this one?

    RJ is on TeamUSA.

Eddie is mentioned in every trade rumor.

Too soon to tell about that draft. RJ or Griffin. I think RJ is one of the MOST overrated players in the NBA and his game is GREATLY augmented by playing with Kidd. Take RJ and put him on another team and his production goes WAY down. He has a poor outside shot and gets most of his points in fast break transition because of Kidd. Griffin is still young so it is too soon to tell.

wow, this hasn't been done before.

I'd still rather have a big man with the potential of Griff over the players NJ picked.

But I'd rather have Murphy than Griff.

hey it happens. Griff was to be a decent player at the 3 and 4 spots and Jefferson was to be a decent player at the 2 and 3 spots. we needed big men at the time so I personally did not think the trade was bad at the time. But you must take this into consideration. would Jefferson florish here in the iso offence and would Griff still stink up the joint in NJ up tempo offence

The trade was reasonable. But the pick was not good, from hindsight.

Quality is always better than quantity in drafts. You want to get one great player, not a bunch of average players. Average players can always be had in the FA market. So I don't think they made a mistake in doing the trade.

Whether they should get EG with that pick is another question. EG might still turn out to be a great player. But at this point of time, he doesn't seem to be worth it.

I just don't see the point in rehashing the past like this. We made the pick, let's just move on.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go start a "should we have taken Drexler instead of McCray" thread. ;)

Its downright comical to the infinite power that all ye "Die Hard" Rocket fans can blast a trade that at the time, and in my humble opinion, is still going to work out in the Rockets favor. Do any of you remember that, at the time, we pretty much had all our roster spots taken, and that we traded out of NECESSITY? We traded all three first round picks, because our rebuilding was pretty much an afterthought, especially after picking up our last rook ... Eddie Griffin, whom we could give a COUPLE YEARS to develop much like JERMAINE O'NEAL took a FEW YEARS to develop. Im not saying Eddie is going to be a Jermaine O'Neal but I do say that its absolutely ludicrous that we havent accorded Eddie the same right as others that have blossomed after a few years of tutelage. Especially since Rudy is a "Veteran's coach" and not necessarily a "tutor" ala Larry Brown. Im not saying Larry Brown is the better coach by any means either, Rudy won two championships with the teams he assembled; Larry Brown has not. I explained this to all you super sensitive pseudofans that look for loopholes in anything anyone says to keep arguing just to hear yourselves talk. Jeff Van Gundy is a (dare I go into cliches) an "X's and O's" coach. Give Eddie a couple years under JVG, if JVG doesnt get rid of him due to his own negligence.

Man I can tell some of you are bored. LOL We're Rockets fans aren't we? If you wanna condemn someone watch Judge Booty and start nagging at the derilects. This Rockets bashing gets old.
